Just installed my ebay intake ! HELP

Hey guys , i just installed my ebay intake on my car . It all started out by me using the filter that came with the intake kit . It fit just fine and no problems other than bending the bracket . Well anyways , I went to drive the car and I got an SES light right away . I went to do a test from 40 mph and the car felt VERY sluggish . Right away I took it back to my house and plugged it up to the OB2 reader and it basically said bank 1 running to rich .

So then I just went to advanced auto parts and bought an AEM dryflow filter . I then went and installed it and took it for a test drive . I did it again from a 40 mph punch and it was feeling pretty damn good . I drove it around for awhile and everything seemed to feel good .

Do you guys think it was the filter that had everything to do with it ? Any advice you could give me ? thanks

I have this same setup. You need to cut the pipe where the filter attaches. If you noticed that the pipe is smaller there than the rest. This is causing a choke point for the air so just cut the pipe to open it up and then put the filter back on. Because it is not allowing all the air to come into the engine it is adding more fuel so it is causing a rich condition. I havent had a problem since I cut the pipe.

Would spraying some type of MAF cleaner spray work , instead of cutting the pipe ? Ill probly just cut the pipe but Im just wanting to know . Thanks

i agree

above post has it dead on. i removed the bottle neck on the end of the filter and used the filter that came with it. i had an intermitent cel on and off. then after about 30 miles of driving it turned itself off and i havent seen it since.

Cheap filter...... I sold that thing to a buddy of mine for $5 so he could put it on his ranger, he thought it was "great quality".... hahahaaha... money in the bank..

The first thing i did was use a K&N filter with the eBay CAI... then i went and made some mods to the CAI so its pretty much identical to the AEM CAI(I think thats the one that uses the stock plastic piece). Works great with lots of whine and no CEL's.. knock on wood.

later

He joined because I told him to join. He was just helping me out with my intake . Thats all . He's also not a dick like most of the people you see out there with nice cars or trucks.

also , we did what you guys told us to do . Cut the pipe ! It worked like a charm ! The car pulls strong now . Thanks for all your help guys !

I've been rocking the eBay intake for quite some time now. No serious problem, had a CEL for a while but it turned out to be a bad CAT. I haven't modified it at all. No cutting no swapping filters. Works fine.

i just got the ebay intake and its been running funny with jumpy throttle and stutters inbetween shifting and threw the p0103 code once. i was thinking of cutting that choke point before i put it on but i forgot. I'm chopping mine tomorrow, hopefully that will help whats going on with mine.
