i just got blown off.
by k&n
there is a wear issue with the intakes on the ss/sc cars. the tube rubs against the ecm. eventually it rubs a hole into the tube, and the intake is rendered useless.

i know the exact difference, and yet that little brake line will not cause the intake to sit against the ecm and rub a hole into itself. sorry, not going to happen.
i don't think she realizes who i work for either. this should be fun.
what i need from you, is ANYONE with a k&n intake to post here, and your stories about them. i didn't want to buy a piece of **** intake, so i bought which was proven in my eyes. yet, it's trying to kill itself. so far, the k&n has a shelf life of 8 months.

On my trailblazer (5.3L V8), i had to use a PLANER to shorten the Throttle body side of the tube, so the rad fan wouldn't hit it and rub a hole through it (plastic is gouged now, but still enough thickness left in the tube that i'm not worried)
Also I had to drill and countersink a hole in the K&N Tube, buy a seperate gromet, and modify the factory Crankcase Vent hose.
A 2 hour install turned into a weekend's worth of trouble. Overall the intake KICKS ASS (factory intake is very restrictive in the V8 trailblazers), but there shouldn't be that kind of install hassle when you pay close to $400 for an intake.

our sales rep that works for k&n informed that they are looking for, or have a 07 ss/sc in the shop right now.
for right now, im going to have to fill the hole with jb weld and cover the entire thing with header wrap {black} just to get it by till the revised one comes out.
i am not the first to have this happened to them. so with the connections i have gained im trying to get the issue pressed that it needs to get done.

I have an 06 with the K&N intake, I noticed a little rubbing against the inner fender plastic last time I was in there to clean the filter, and that was before the car was lowered. I've also seen an Injen cut up by the body, its not just the K&N one.
that is bs! hey im thinking about get a k&n intake and selling my aem.. for hella cheap! but i dont like that kinda customer service. its there f*ckin job to help you. i hate lazy people, huge pet peeve of mine!
I have an '06 with the Typhoon and the same wear issue.Mine didn't wear through I got it before that and inserted a piece of vacuum tube over the fin on the ECM.I'd hoped for a little better fit but I can live with this fix.
I have an injen, and when I got in there to clean my filter last weekend I had noticed that it had rubbed down almost half way through the inside of my bumper. Sucks...
I filled the gouge with some epoxy, and adjusted the filter on the pipe (along with the pipe placement as well) and got a little space in there. I am going to tear it all down this weekend and see how its doing again.
I think this crap is just the way it is with intakes on this car. Personally I think one more bend in any of the manufacturer's pipes would fix it, but I am also not an engineer

x2 I am the exact same way, Im kinda a noob when it comes to ecms but is there anyway to grind down the fin that rubs the intake, or will that effect the ecm in a negative way.

I can't believe noone can make a damn intake for this car. BlilBt has had so many problems with his Injen he just decided to fix it himself. Didn't take too much work but after 2 revisions and jerking him around It pisses me off that he had to fix it himself.

i have a fix for it. im doing it this weekend. my damn sales rep at k&n tried to help, but had no answer for me. they have numerous e-mails from people about this issue. i guess it takes someone on the inside to get something done
I just put the K&N typhoon on mine about 2 weeks ago and the only place I could see it slightly rubbing was the fender down by the filter. Mine doesn't touch the ecu or anything up top. I did put a ziptie on the ecu to hold it back a little bit but nothing touches it. I just put some foam stuff where it was rubbing down underneath to make sure that stays ok. Maybe it needs aligned better?
