Too much. lol

It depends on where you go and how good of a job it is. Anywhere between $2,000- $6000 I would imagine

My friend got a paint job for about 1,000 but it wasn't so great, so I figure maybe double.

Too much. I manage a collision center and to do a complete color change will probably run you about $5000. Please do not get fooled by the cheap shops like MAACo who will do it for $1000. The use lower grade materials, lower grade techs, and poor prep techniques. It isn't worth your time or money to take on a project like that. it would be cheaper to buy another car in the color you want.
