if i go to a different dealer than where i got my car, will my warranty still apply, or is it only through the dealer where i bought the car?

Your bumper to bumper GM warranty should apply with any GM dealership. If your out of your milage and have extended warranty, sometimes it's cheaper on the deductible if you go to the selling dealership. Some dealerships wave the deductible if you return to them to get the work done.
