Going to the strip

Taking my car to the drag strip on Sept. 7th at pittsburgh raceway to see what i can do. The strip is having 4 and 6cyl. night so it should be fun. Anyway is wanted to see if you guys can give me any advice, like lowering the tire pressure to get more traction, when how to launch. I dont want to do a burnout because im still rocking the stock rubber and its pointless in my opionion without having drag radials. Maybe you guys can prove me wrong in that area. Anyway its a 5spd and my mods are in my sig. I raced here in the past, not in this car but another so i have some experince but its been years since i've launched from a tree. I'll post times and pics next weekend.

Don't worry about it. Stay calm and don't jump the gun too early. Get some practice runs to get the feel. You won't have to worry about the tires spinning especially running with your Eibach's/intake/exhaust. But mainly because the track is sticky as ****. But if you're still worried about burning out just reassure yourself and put your BEST tires in front and refill them to stock/recommended pressure levels. OH, and try not to miss 1st to 2nd gear

I always lowered my tire pressure to 25PSI. Seemed to help the wheelhop and it was a bit easier to launch. Careful when your shifting that you don't hit the rev limiter--6800rpm--if you do there goes your run

Oh and do what I did, take out ALL excess weight including trash/parts/EVERYTHING. I also took out my rear seats and passenger. There is a how-to on that somewhere around here.

Haven't heard that one before. Why?

Are local dealers snooping around?

I'm not worried about extra weight, this isnt a race car. I have the side curtain air bags and every other factory option so the car is a bit heavy, but i dont really care all that much just wanna see what times i can but down and have some fun. Anyway if i wanna go fast, ill just hop on my ninja and crank it to 140. lol

i was hitting perfect reaction times my first time at the track...at our track it has 2 yellow stage lights then a green light..i would not rev anything..and as SOON as that first yellow light lit up i would drop the clutch and get the **** out of the starting bay lol...works perfect b/c our cars dont pick up super fast but dont spin out hard so ur reaction times will be good..just try that..

oh and the reason u take ur plates off is becasue (well at my track atleast) GM warrenty reps go there..and they tend to take pictures and will void ur warrenty if anything happens "Drag"related..so make sure u cover up ur vin numbers with stickers and take ur plates off

Good idea, I'd hate to void my warranty, just be on the safe side.

when i went to the track with like..10 other cobalts i noticed lots of tem taking plates off and i wondered to my self why..of course i found out later that i should have taken mine off cuz a GM warrenty rep was there threating other cobalts there "Dont break anything out there or u will regret it" so we told him to **** off and go back to his office job lol

Take off the plates and stick some tape on the VIN just in case. I remember a while back Mitsubishi was sending reps to local tracks and voiding Evo warranties for 'abuse.'
