Am I getting screwed around, or is this dealership out of the loop?
Am I getting screwed around, or is this dealership out of the loop?
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum.
I have been looking into getting an '09 SS as my daily driver.
I live on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. There are 3 GM dealerships for the whole island, One downtown (Victoria Motors), one on the outskirts of downtown (Jenner Chev), and one further north, about an hour away (Baljet GM).
Here's the story:
I sent emails to all 3 inquiring about this car.
- Baljet hasn't gotten back to me at all (I guess they don't want my business).
- Victoria Motors called me back the next morning, they had one in stock! I went down to look at it, It looks good, feels good, sounds good, and if it drives as well as everyone claims, I am willing to forget about the cheap plastic interior (it really does feel cheap). It had every option available except for LSD, and was even on sale for $2000 off sticker. I would have bought it on the spot if it had LSD. The salesman that was helping me knew nothing about the car, he couldn't answer any questions, and basically just let me have a seat inside and check it out. He took my business card and said someone would give me info on getting one with the options I wanted. I have not heard anything from them since. Perhaps they don't want my business either.
But my question has to do with the response I got from Jenner chev:
They emailed me back to tell me they normally don't order them with the options I wanted (Or specifically, don't want. I don't want sunroof or high wing spoiler), but for a small deposit they could order it in the configuration I wanted and if I hurried, I would get the first one on order.
I replied and asked them if they at least had any with LSD. The reply was "On non customer orders, the first 2009 models will be based on what the head office wants to ship us, in other words the next 2 to 3 months we will not know what GM will ship us." "The only way that I can know so sure is too do a customer factory order.
A factory order at this time of the year would be about 6-8 weeks, later in the year orders can take up to 4 months as the factory backs up with orders."
2-3 months before they get ANY stock??? I found that hard to believe since Victoria Motors already HAD one. Could they just be last in line to get the first shipment? Or are they hoping I run down there in a mad dash to put a deposit on one?
I am in no hurry, and I HAVE to test drive one before I order one. I will not order a car I have not driven.
Thanks for reading my novel, please give me any advice you can. I want to be an '09 SS owner, if the dealers can actually make it happen.

Yes i work at a chevy dealer as well i know the ordering process and technically every vehicle is special order but if it is for retail it is marked that way and if it is for a customer it is marked as sold, most dealers save most common used configurations to order multiple cars they just may change a color here and there.
I want to blend in, so I'm going for silver. My car now is old chevy dalmation white. what's dalmations, it's a old chevy peeling white paint. So when I'm looking at my car on my security cameras, this is what it looks like. The funny thing is it's only on the top, trunk roof hood. Sides look good.
I love that pic is that your car? If yes nice car & what options.
The only thing I'm doing to my car is the 3M clear bra. & debadging the ss turbo emblems
& that little antenna on the roof is xm radio

How many miles u put on her?
Any cons u see?
I be keeping mine stock. Want snow tire & rims. like to see 17" fitting, but what everyone says it's not looking good. **** the spare don't even fit. I be doing evey mechanical thing but the clutch For warranty reasons.

Currently sits in the side yard with about 1800 miles.
Cons?
You are asking an extreme critic the cons
There is no way to kill ESC and keep comp mode on...and it is bull **** because me and ESC don't see eye to eye on most things.
The TPMS will make you want to rip your hair out when it comes to other wheels.
OH and I find the F23(non F/I Cobalts)manual to be easier to find gears. Whereas this one can leave you in the dark, but I had 30k on my old SS/NA and was very used to it...so mainly that gripe is:
I have to get used to this car

On the ESC. I drove cars with it, but not long enought to go through 100s of scenarios. I would love to rent 1 for a week before buying it. So my feeling on ESC I think would feel the same way as you. There will be times that I'll want to use my judgement cause of the many variables that going on or just cause.
On the TPMS. I wonder what the car does if they were not there in the rims? Like a spare set of rims? Does the car go in limp mode, does it start speaking to me " DANGER DANGER Mr. Robinson"
This newwer cobalt uses a CAN system(controll-area-network) instead of the old OBD2 to run this car? YES????
i just read sport compacts review on the SS/TC and at the end of the review they asked if the reader noticed that they didn't mention anything about headroom, trunkspace, or interior quality. why? because 5 minutes behind the wheel, and you won't care. haha
Order what you want and wait the time or ask the dealer to find one in the system that they can do a dealer trade for. The car business stinks in Victoria as else where and all the dealers are eager to make a sale. See Ted at VMP he sold me my SS/SC and made a real effort at finding me the Silverado with equipment I wanted "in the system".
