Anyone Ever changed their radio to a USB radio?

hey everyone!

Im looking for some advice.

I want to change my ugly silver radio in my 2008 cobalt SS turbo to a Black OEM USB radio BUT im being told by certain people that if you do change it.......you have to take it to the dealer to get them to flash it or something along those lines......

Does anyone out there know if this is true.........i really dont feel like paying some dip **** at the dealer more to flash it than it did to buy the radio.......

Also im being told that I have to get my part number from my stock radio because only certain Types of the USB radio will work????

How do i get my part number without removing my stock radio........I called the dealer and they told me that they cant even get y part nember for my radio if I gave them my VIN number for my car.

O and if anyone out there knows where I can get a stock black radio or has one for sale .......lemme know

I don't think there would be any flash to put a radio in. My car came with the usb in the radio already.

I seem to recall reading that they have to unlock it, and yes, they need your VIN to do it.

Ya its gonna be locked and u need a vin to the radio to unlock it. Not to mention u risk loosing xm if u have it. It's much easier to get an Axxess interface module and it hooks straight in, that's exactly what I did. Google it to find more info on what I'm talkin about

Just a side note.... When you do unlock it and swap it out and stuff wait for the door chime... A local guy had his done down here and it sounds like his car is trying to kill you with its door chiming. It's soooo loud and apparently there is no way to control the volume. Not sure if his is the only one that does it but just thought I'd throw it out there.
