I've searched and found people ask about doing a swap but no one ever says if they did it. The last thread I found was a long while ago, so I'm daring to raise the question again.

Has anyone swapped the stock mirror with one from lets say a Malibu that has auto dim? If so, is it a simple plug and play?

Since I drive in the dark for about 7-8 months out of the year to and from work, this is something I would like to have, if it's a simple swap.

 

Tint the back window. Problem solved.

 

my 06 has auto dim... why wouldn't an 09?

 

It should work. You just have to have power running to it. I won't guarentee you'll retain Onstar if you use it, but if you don't, it'll work.

The SS/TC cars didn't have that as an option otherwise I'd have it.

Couldn't give a rats ass about onstar. 90% of the time it's a red light anyway.

My wife's 07 Caliber has tinted windows and auto dim and that's one of the best features on the car IMO

I just did an autodim mirror swap from an HHR. Cake, just gotta add 2 wires and hook em up. Took myself and Tom like an hour. Did you end up doing this?

 

Is it that hard to flip the lever?

Rearview is only for seeing if there's a cop behind you, anyway. lol

 

The flip actually makes it too dark with my 15% tint. Plus it also has a compass and LED map lights. Think it only ran me $35 as I recall.

 

or how your bass is shaking..

I installed an auto dimming mirror with home link in my 09 ss/tc and I love it. its pretty easy, just gotta cut off the factory plug and wire the one for the new mirror on there. mine had full instructions with it, worked first try.

 

there is more than just power, there is also door switch if u want the dome light to come on when door opens, if u have a mirror with a dome light because of sunroof. there is ground, if u replace it with an auto dimming onstar mirror, there are those wires. and if its like mine, which has compass and inside or outside temp, where ever u wanna put the probe, u gotta run the probe wire.
