Bnr k04-gt28
Correct. The 2871 has the upgraded housing. I was trying to minimilize what I was trying to say, sorry. I would love the 2871 but the upgraded housing eliminates the BPV and thus would require a BOV somewhere in the system and, me personally, I dont wanna mess with all that..lol...I think the 2860 should get us to at least 350 conservatively and 370 pushing it. Im happy with that, plus maybe the ZZP cams if they ever get released
Got an e-mail the other day saying that the spacer, etc, should be in around Xmas so he will get them out as soon as he can after that. In other words, for those of us with the Stage II already we should be able to get them into our cars in early January I'm guessing...I CAN'T FREAKING WAIT!!!!!!!! Going to be awesome!
correct me if im wrong but is this not just a wheel/cover swap on the compressor side? I was saying stock K04 turbine w/ a 2871 compressor just doesnt seem like it would work all that well... bigger heavier wheel trying to grab more air and keeping the same force on the turbine when the 2871 clearly has a bigger area for the exhaust to apply its force... now if hes stuffing a 2871 into a stock turbine HOUSING then this could be veeerrryyy interesting
This BNR K04-GT28 is a bit of a sleeper hybrid. Basically, like Cubaniche was saying, he took the whole rotating assembly of a GT28 (compressor wheel, shaft, and turbine wheel), and machined the compressor housing, center housing, and exhaust housing of our K04 to fit the GT28 parts inside. Internally, it's a GT28. Externally, it's an identical-looking, bolt-up K04.
In the GT2871's case, he felt that he reached the flow limit of the K04's compressor housing and opted to use a actual GT2871 compressor housing. This means though that you'll need your own a BOV/BPV, and charge piping that will adapt to those needs.
To restate it for people just now jumping on this thread:
Stage 1: GT2860 in an LNF K04 body. Housings are machined to fit the larger compressor and exhaust wheels, and improve flow. Center housing machined to fit larger shaft. Should be fully bolt-up, with included coolant line extension.
Stage 2: GT2871 in an LNF K04 body, but uses the GT2871 compressor housing. This means that there may be some modifications with the charge piping needed and you'll need your own BOV/BPV. The center and exhaust housings are K04 and machined to fit/flow properly.

C'mon, somebody hurry up and get some dyno numbers already! Man! The first company to offer a bolt-on turbo upgrade that has proven 400WHP potential is gonna sell a ton of kits! A ton!!!
The limit without a turbo upgrade has been reached and there is a huge pent up interest in a kit like this! Look at how many pages for this topic already and it's all just talk so far.
And don't say "but ZZP and Synapse already sell a kit" because I'm not interested in paying for a second set of charge pipes, intercooler etc. which I don't need just to get the turbo. Look at how many intakes, charge pipes, downpipes, and tunes have been sold. So many people have 2 or 3 bolt-ons already.

well I have all my bonus monies after taxes in my account now. roughly $2600.. Should be seeing some of the those taxes coming back as well. Not sure how much though.
However, after the holiday spirit had overwelmed me this winter, I owe $2000 on my credit card, lol. hmmm. Im gonna wait till tax returns and then see how much I have left over after paying my small credit card debt.

Tglems, I noticed you already have the turbo in your possession. I will be pming you for details once im ready to do the turbo swap, assuming you will have it done before me, lol. Do you have a new clutch or will you be trying to use the stock till it dies?
Yeah, I keep telling myself I will pay it off, only a matter of time. But it will take alot of time and I will somehow keep piling more stuff on it. pay it off and hide it is my plan. or pay it off and buy the turbo with it.
Right now myself and the other stage II'ers are just waiting on the spacer, so we should be turbo swapping around early january or so. I am still on the stock clutch as my wife isn't very interested in me getting a new clutch at this point (read as spending more money
Yup, I do! Check page 15 for a couple quick photos that I took. It really looks great, no shaft play to speak of.

) so it'll be interesting to see how that does. My plans are to trifecta/termi tune for e85, but feel free to pm me for more details when you're considering it.

Oh one more thing, did you send your turbo in? or did you pay $300 up front to get on the core swap plan. if you did the latter, does he expect the stocker to be sent back immediately?
CudaJoe, when I emailed BNR, they told me if I didn't have the core up front, they would charge $300 and then you send your core in once the swap was done to get the $300 back. They didn't really say how soon they expected the core to be sent in.
I have never done a turbo swap either, but it don't sound too bad. If a novice can do it in a day, I "might" be able to finish it over a whole weekend. I found these instruction from a previous baldturbofreak post:

Turbo swap instructions: Heatshields must come off. Exhaust has to be lowered in the front. Cat must come out. Intake piping, hotside soft elbow, oil feed and cooling lines and then you can remove the turbo. An accomplished mechanic will do this in about 3 hours the first time. A novice will take all day, but should be capable of doing it.
ive seen the turbo. infact the stage 2 now. i went to BNR myself to see it. and I think yall are going to like what you see. also I know they have a sky already dynoed. I belive he told me it was stage 1 putting 350-360 which i know is a big diff there but im tired. so we should see 390ish o and the spacer is nice
A sky was dynoed with a BNR stage 2 and made 350whp. Now, remember that the sky/solstice are RWD so the drivetrain loss is a little more. In your cobalt you should see more due to your Wrong wheel drive "COUGH" I mean FWD. LOL
