I highly doubt BNR is going to invest all the time in research, tooling, jigs and setting up CNC programs for our particular K04 to have it fail. Don't forget hes been converting factory turbos for other platforms as well.

Meh no lag on out factory K-04s so I am not that worried. I think the cost to benefit ratio will be nice on this setup. I am thinking it should be able to hit 400 whp at 24 psi.

Which wheel are you referring to, the 2871?

yeah because I am doing this option pretty sure .. So you will have multiple people to tune with and get the bugs worked out if you wanna go in on it together ...

I don't really like aftermarket BOV's for the sound effects so what wheel do you think will hit 400 , thats the one I want .

Se we ARE talking about the 2860 stage1 right? lol
Cause Im in the same boat as you. Im not going to mess with BOV and MAF relocate, but Im under the impression that 360whp would be safe and efficient on the 2860.

I would like to see how much difference in makes on your car for sure. I would go with the 2871 option because it should get you to 400whp.

If you go 2871 does that mean new clutch? What other supporting mods would you need? I have full bolt ons at this point, but if I were to do this I would want to do it at minimum cost...

I would think if you wnt conservative with the boost delivery to avoid shocking the clutch the stocker should hold.

I'm curious how these turbo "upgrades" would fair with a fully bolted Balt. And maybe one that is fully bolted with a good clutch and some pistons. I wanna hit the low 400s at the wheel and this seems like the best way to go about it.

it should hit 45lb/min at roughly 2.25 pr in a perfect world, so depending on elevation above sea level it could be as low as 19 psi to hit 400hp. i'm thinking average for 400whp will be close to 22psi.

Then you would want the 2871, full bolt-ons and a good tune and clutch. Not too strong a clutch cause you want it to slip a little like the stocker does so you dont blow your tranny like others have.

You just described my balt. Full-bolt-ons and pistons. Im looking at the 2860 and maybe 360whp. Thats all I want. Thats enough power for me to have fun with it still as a DD and some time at the track too

Taking into account that there will be an efficiency reduction associated with putting those larger wheels in our housing, albeit reconfigured, I am expecting it to be 5% or so less efficient than a regular GT2971R.

Yes, should be a tad less efficient than a "real" gt2871, but still a major upgrade over the stock k04. As you said, the cost to benefit ratio of this upgrade will be good and I am 100% for that, I bought a cobalt after-all! I can't bring myself to spend 25% or more of my car value for a turbo upgrade!

I might make a vid tutorial how to remove and install the stock turbo..

It is still over some peoples heads but with a video maybe every one would have the confidence to yank it out and send it on over to BNR...

So I'm thinking about this for my sky. It will get great to see some dyno numbers. I might be going for the stage 1 just to leave everything stock except for the turbo. Would be nice with a trifecta hide a tune.

Its the big wheel or bust for me ... I don't see the smallest wheel adding more than 20 WHP honestly ...

The 2860 in the stock housing (Stage 1) would probably be maxed at 375hp, as long as you have intake, intercooler upgrade, and full exhaust. It also depends on elevation and other factors but 380-400 is perfectly feasible. Ive heard of people pushing disco potatoes to 26psi for years with no problems. Thats still a gain of 65hp over a TC with full bolt ons and Trifecta tune. That is a little bit optimistic but the Stage 1 will add way more than 20whp, probably more than 40whp honestly.

Ok so I am no expert and I'll be very optimistic but what are you thinking the Stage3 2871 would do ?
