If you're talking about detonation as in knock, then it does that stock with the stock tune and stock boost level.

If you're talking about amount of boost pressure before something hardware-wise is guaranteed to give out... well... we haven't found out yet... somewhere above 30psi as people are already running that much without issue.

There comes a point when more boost pressure alone isn't better. After all, manifold pressure is air that isn't getting through, and you're wanting more flow in the end. Bigger turbo, ported intake manifold, and forged pistons to support the extra flow would be wonderful. You wouldn't see as much boost pressure, but that's because it'd be flowing the air more efficiently.

Well, just get yourself a downpipe and a tune and this thing will wake up in a big way. That small turbo car would take your LS1 with nothing done but a tune if your LS1 wasn't boosted. They're very impressive. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, as it's a whole new car when tuned.

Oh you already have a boosted car so you know boost is not directly proportional to power.

If you're comfortable with HPTuners, then you're in luck, as that is one of the main software suites that people use to tune our cars. There are many knowledgeable tuners on here that can help you if you would like somebody to help you tune. There are a lot of small things about this engine that makes it much different than most to tune. I'd highly recommend reading up on them before trying to tune it. Things such as direct injection drastically change the tuning approach.

I'd also check the HPTuners forum for tips on tuning this engine if you try doing it yourself.
