Brakes are shot!

As most of you know by now I am racing my SS/TC on the track on a regular basis.
After approx 200 very hard laps and 4000km street driving my brakes are shot.

I will need pads & rotors all four corners for our next event Aug23.

I am just doing some homework, so please post ideas & links of what is out there...

Thanks in advance.

Look at pads by Hawk (I think that's what they're called) for the rears since anything through the dealer (including the rotors) is going to take upwards of 3 months to come in. Rotor wise you may be stuck with a resurface since I'm not aware of any aftermarket rear rotors.

Well I believe you can only order factory original rotors, nothing fancy out yet. And for brakes, you can upgrade to hawk. They have a few different applications for us in front and back

I have heard rumours of a front floating rotor kit coming out for our brakes soon.

Here's a site that has a full range of Hawk pads for the SS with Brembo calipers -- http://www.topbrakes.com/order.cfm?p...embo%20caliper

If necessary, go to the 'Home' site and put in your vehicle details.

The stock TC pads are extremely coarse. Consider Hawk

Does no one search? I spent several hours compiling all of this information, its the FIRST sticky on this page!!

Also, GM is backordered nationally on the rear rotors. Unknown arrival time.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-10-ss-turbocharged-general-discussion-152/front-rear-brake-informational-thread-178668/

Just so you dont have to follow the link (which will be updated as more information is available)

Brakes:
Front rotor GM part number - ?
Front caliper GM part number - ?
Front pads GM part number - ?

Rear rotor GM part number - 15921402
Rear caliper GM part number - 25902073
Rear pads GM part number - 93190338 (can anyone verify this? GMpartsdirect does not have a listing on this number)

Where to buy?
Front rotors: UNKNOWN ?
Local dealer
gmpartsdirect - unknown part number?

Rear rotors:
Your local dealer - $unknown
gmpartsdirect.com - $47.83 each - Back Ordered (Part is on national backorder with GM, GM does not currently have an ETA for the part to be released.
Crate Engine Depot - $74.57 each - Backordered, Tom just sold out yesterday (07-06-09) and has more on order so check with him to see if he has received more.

*Note! RockAuto.com at the time of this post does NOT have the right parts listed for the 2008+ SS. Neither does most web pages when you look for the rear (or front) rotors.

Front pads:
Local dealer - unknown part number

Rear pads:
Hawk has listings (several verified dealers on here sell them, see below)
OEM rears - Crate Engine Depot - $70.38
Autozone - (not stocked locally here, unknown time to arrival)
-Ceramic - DGC1033
-Ceramic - DG1033
-Semi-metallic - MKD1033

Pep Boys -
Semi-Metallic - PD1033M
Ceramic - PR1033C

Alternate Rotors:
I have not found alternates to the front OR rear rotors yet, please chime in if you know for a fact of an alternate (rumors of 2003 saab 9-3 being the same? However part #'s are different)

For reference if you are looking at a site you think may have the parts:
Front - 315.5mm x 26mm rotors, 38mm 4 piston Brembo aluminum calipers.
Rear - vented 292mm x 19.9mm rotors, 40mm single piston iron calipers

The calipers ARE different than the Sport!

Alternate Pads:

Rear pads from a Solstice work, GM part number - ?

Hawk HPS front - HB548F.590
Hawk HPS rear - HB525F.540

Hawk HP+ front - HB548N.590
Hawk HP+ rear - HB525N.540

Hawk Ceramic front - ?
Hawk Ceramic rear - HB525Z.540

I would do Hawk any day over EBC(red, green or blue), Hawk pads seem to have a bit more longevity. Although with all the track days you do its going to be tough to find the perfect set up that will last....

Thanks for the replies! Sorry I did not "search " first...

After closer inspection I may get away by machining my rotors and just do pads, will know more this weekend.

So far I am looking at the Hawk HP+ for the front and HPS on the rear. I used to race the Grand Sport GS3 / GS5's by Satisfied Motorsports on my Cobra with great results...

Anyboby ran the HPS's on the track yet?

Sorry about that I just put a lot of work into gathering the information for that post and it seems like every day someone is posting something about the brakes .

HP+ and HPS will be a nice combo Im going with HPS front and rear myself, and hopefully the rear rotors from a saab work (or Im out 115 bucks lol)

BTW - nice vids..
