I have a catless downpipe and like the sound, but I feel like the muffler is holding it back. Does a 3inch catback really sound $400 better than a cheap muffler delete? Let me know what ya think, thanks!

I think for the mod cost you cant beat it...thats my opinion...look through this thread there are some movies of other members cars in there. See if it sounds good to you. Im not going 3inch till I go BT. I am way happy and super content with the sound until then.

Seriously though you need to watch some videos as this is basically a personal preference whether a catback is worth the money over a md or not.

damn. it echos pretty good on the road your on.

it sounds good though. a wee bit on the loud side.

cant wait to put my catless DP on.

OP it all depends on the catback. from what ive read you dont really gain a whole lot of HP from cat back IF your TUNED. if your GMS1 then it really wouldnt be worth it. the stock cat back sounds better IMO than the Hahn cat back i have on my car.

in fact im taking my Hahn catback off and putting the stock cat back on with the muffler delete+ Hahn catless DP

wow! that sounds like a sexy 4 cylinder. I already have a catless DP, i may try the muffler delete. Does anyone know if the back section of the exhaust can come of or do you have to cut it?

you have to cut it and weld in a straight pipe.

others on here have done it themselves or took it to a shop (some pay 100$)

it only cost me 20$

well worth it IMO

Take a look at this thread:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-1...83/index3.html

On the last page I posted some videos of what my exhaust (Hahn 3" catted DP & catback) sounds like. There's also some other sound clips there.

It's only loud when you step on it. It's crisp when you're driving in city, sounds like a badass monster. You have to cut the muffler off and have a new straitpipe and tip welded on.

If your worried about exhaust flow restriction then just get a high flow billit muffler. Don't take the muffler off a 4 cylinder car.

so here's my next question. I ruled out a muffler delete as I don't want to be that one guy with an excessively loud exhaust. I already get enough crap for having a cobalt haha. Will the mufflerless mpx cat back sound the same as the stock cat back muffler delete, or will it have a smoother, deeper tone. Im between mufflerless and regular mpx catback now. thanks

The tone will be a little deeper and less raspy- but still very loud. Could check out Hahn's exhaust, their's sounds really good with the muffler on.

if you are using the same size piping, pretty much ever setup will sound the same, just different levels of loudness. Almost all of the TCs I've heard sounded exactly the same some were just louder than others.

^^ agreed...the muffler less mpx is gonna sound pretty much like a muffler deleted ss...what you need if you so concerned about noise is a catted dp with muffler/mpx exhaust with muffler...will still sound good not as aggressive.
