checking the clutch???

checking the clutch???

i heard that there is a way to see how the clutch and transmission are holding up?? something about 3rd gear at a low rate of speed?? i dunno if this kid was just messing with me or if he was right? just wanted some input? thanks for any post

basically the clutch is good if it holds and does not slip in third gear at 3000 rpms at full throttle.. The thing about putting load on the car at 3000rpms or lower is it puts a crap ton of stress on the transmission.

its not the best way to find out but its pretty much the only way.

Check it for slipping?

Easiest way to tell if it's not really holding the power anymore is get it in 4th gear at about 2000 rpms and floor it. If that doesn't slip, then you're good

i remember an old chiltons book from the 70s i had, said put it in 4th gear and put your foot on the brake and then let the clutch up smoothly if it stalls the engine its still cool

are you tuned or stock? my clutch is now slipping in third as the boost spools up at lower rpms like it did in 5th then 4th. think its time for a new one lol

I usually cruise at about 45, put it in 5th and floor it. If the RPM's suddenly shoot up without corresponding change in speed, your clutch is shot.
