Ive done 122MPH in my base 4dr 05 Cobalt, im sure the 2.4 can hit 130. I thought I would have hit a limiter, maybe the 05 or mine didnt get it? lol, but 122MPH is gps confirmed, and the speedo is damn accurate too.

I doubt this. That said, I don't remember seeing anyone post reliable GPS speeds north of 160 from a 2.0 with no limiter, so I have no proof.

I hope to finally get out to the Salt Flats this summer and test this out! It's only 1.5 hrs from my house. Part of the reason I haven't gone yet is I'm a bit scared, to be honest. I am tuned and specifically asked to have the top speed limiter removed. I will track my speed via GPS through my Dashdaq. I think my car will do at least 170mph, but I'm not sure my clutch will hold for that long!

Maybe if we could get some good weather here in Utah I could go do this sooner!

Some time ago another member indicated he had been to Bonneville with a T/C. He got a few more mph w/o the hi-rise but the car got a little "twitchy".
Don't they tie the speed limiter (loosely) to the speed rating of the oem tires? I had a 95 S-10 SS that would fall on it's face at about 95 or so. Probably for the best.

its the other way around, you match the speed rating of the tires to your car. you also want to have a tire that is above the max speed of your car so at to give yourself room to breath. i myself run z or y rated tires, because well they are designed for a car that goes a hell of a lot faster then mine and they offer better performance due to point a

I'm talking about what the factory does. My S-10 was still pulling strong when the speed limiter kicked in. I've been told it's because the original rubber wasn't y/z rated. They probably didn't see putting high-end rubber on an S-10.

Idk if they maybe changed the top speed between 08's and 09's but my 08 hit 160 before my tune gps tracked. I can take a pic of gps on Monday when I get home and in a few weeks recorde it when I head up to Albuquerque.

Super old thread but I'm bringing it back. So there is some kinda second speed limiter on the sstc. Can't confirm if it's only mine or it's a thing cause everyone too chicken to get up there. So iv tried 4 times now , and it is not the tune, limiter in tune is set to 512 kph so not that, but as soon as I hit gps confirmed 175mph , every time the Speedo shuts down and u hit a wall, feels like a rev limit even tho I got plenty of rpm left to redline. I'm running f35 6 speed. But ya the car jerks a bit like once, and thats it. I get off it there.
I have not tried to let off a sec and then go again to double check , but that's how she behaves
