engine swap possibilities

soo ya im a youngster who is obviously in the wrong forum but i figured i can get some legin infor from pros or semi pros like urselfs. so here is my situation i gotta 2001 chevy cavalier base with a wimpy 100 hp 2.2 liter engine, the thing has over 265000 miles on it...ya thats alot but it runs fine no problems with it no leaks and the tranny is good, so i wanna vastly improve the horsepower of it i was thinking of swapping a 2.2 liter 2007 or 8 cobalt ss engine as well as the tranny, but ive come to find that it would take alotta work and need alotta parts such as mounts and a new comp with tranny, so with all this in mind i was wonderin if possible would anyone advise this swap or coule someone give me advise on a rebuild and ungrade info to atleast get me over 210 hp for a decently tight budget please include price speculations also

Best to checkout www.J-Body.org <--- Cavalier site

I have personally done the swap you are talking about. I had a 1996 cavalier, 2.4L auto trans, I swapped in a 2005 2.2L Ecotec Manual trans. You will need a front trans weld on bracket, in which we are the only ones that carry it, as we designed it. Also you will most likely want our complete engine/trans mount setup.

Cost? Around $2000-3000 with the engine and trans and donor car parts.

honestly i think you're going to have a real hard time.. i dont think that 2001 is an ecotec so you'd need a whole new harness ecu and everything if thats the case i'd say go 2.4 because you can use the F23 still if thats what you have

otherwise do an LNF swap if you can it'd be expensive but well worth it

you could aso be crazy and swap like a northstar in your car lol .. you'd have to swap to an auto but i say go big or go home..

No matter what engine he switches to, he will need the harness.

The getrag found in his 2001 (if it is a manual) is not the same bell housing as on the 2.2L eco or the 2.4L twin cam LD9. It wont be a direct engine swap, a tranny will also be needed. So tranny really does not make that much difference.

2.4L LD9 VS 2.2L ecotec... 2.2L ecotec has 10X the aftermarket support for internals.

I dont think anyone yet has put in a LNF in a cavalier. Completely different mounting points cause a huge issue, to an average owner. I am sure some company has, but if you want to do a shade tree effort, I would stay away from the LNF/LSJ.

Best advise to the OP, get an ecotec from a 2003-05 cavalier (2002 has a different fuel rail system) and get a cavalier 2002-05 Getrag ecotec transmission...

Yeah, it is okay...

The LD9 is a strong engine compared to the previous version (the 2.3L), but the ecotec is just one more step up.
