First Wrecked T/C on .Net
I love how you think seatbelts don't do anything. I know several engineers that will tell you different.
i also had a buddy that was killed wearing his he flipped his trucked, and his brother was thrown through the windshield, david the driver was buckled and the truck flipped into a tree and killed him. (it flipped end over end) michael his bro had cuts from going through the windshield but luckily the trucked flipped over him not touching him. i think the only time seatbelts truly do any good is in a headon collision
They won't get much, since they weren't wearing seatbelts (the reason they were so injured). any half wit lawyer will be able to defend against that.
One thing to keep in mind, even if you have medical payment insurance on your car insurance, it generally doesn't pay for YOUR medical expenses, just the others involved. Make sure you have good normal medical insurance in case something like this happens to you, because your insurance will cover everyone else involved but you...

about the seatbelts... i didnt read the other three pages after this post... but i know here in ohio the driver can get pulled over and ticketed if the passenger isnt wearing a belt... its considered drivers responsibility to make sure everyone in your vehicle is buckled.
Most states as NJ does have that law, but with the stipulation that they are 18 or over. IF under then the driver is responsible for his/her passengers well being.
i rolled my 2002 corolla off the highway @ 70mph with my GRANDMOTHER in the car. mechanical failure. guess what: I was wearing my seatbelt and so was my grandmother. I scratched my hand and she was a bit bruised up, but otherwise OK. Car was totalled.
But for a moment, let's forget what even the engineers have said. Just look at the statistics.
Seat belts have saved more lives than any other safety device ever produced.
But if some people think they can defy the odds, well, then let them beware.

So what are people gonna do then, start jumping off buildings?
Many people have been thrown through the windshield and survived, only to have the car land on them, killing them. Or they have been ejected from the vehicle, but were directly thrown into a wall or a tree, and were killed that way.
Just stick with the odds people, not the with exceptions.
It's Only Common Sense.
I figured the driver was my age. Speeding in the fog whilst wearing no seatbelts is a huge no-no. If they're lucky to walk away from this, they should take it as a lesson learned first hand. I hope they get well soon.
The reason the drivers back broke is because the guy sitting behind him didn't have a seat belt on, at the time of impact slamming into the back of the drivers seat, forcing him forward and breaking his back. If the passengers had been wearing their seatbelts, chances are in that particular instance they would have all walked away looking at the damage.
Anyone know if ONSTAR worked and if the airbags deployed?

I think he was just trying to say that in certain accidents, like this one, a seatbelt is not going to make you walk away from the crash. He isn't trying to say don't wear your seatbelt.
update on the kid in critical...
well the doctors keep finding things wrong with him.... I know something is now wrong with his liver... and they tried letting him breathe on his own and he stopped breathing... so he still is looking in bad shape

You're going to see a lot of accidents with this car. It's cheap, it's fast, OOO LIKE ZOMG IT HAS A TURBO, for those reasons, young drivers are going to be behind the wheel of a car like this. And when there's young drivers, there's not much experience they have, and sh*t like this happens. From what the original poster is saying, it sounds like this accident could've been avoided. They could've simply not been driving in the thick foggy weather...if the driver thinks theres a turn up ahead but there really isn't, the visibility must be extremely poor...seemed like he couldn't see a damn thing. It's not a good thing to be driving around in weather such as that
Lets hope that everybody pulls out of this.
And they can reflect on driver responsibility and seatbelt use.
The SS/TC will be dangerous for all the young guys that will be able to afford them, or to convince their parents to get it for them. They are quite fast and the handling goes quite a long ways, just makes it all that much worse when you go over the limit.
Although at least it isn't RWD, that really makes the situation worse w/ inexperienced drivers.

Maybe not walk away, but the injuries would've been possibly cut by 50%. Seatbelt kept me from flying through my open window and possible 20 feet down onto the interstate when I hit the bridge. Yes it made me hurt my side because I folded sideways over the center console. But I'll take that out of being someone's hood decoration on the interstate 20 feet below me.
Lol I was just wondering cuz I see a lot that should be in the general for the lnf. But I really hope everyone can survive this and my prays go out to the victims and family. Hope everyone gets betetr
