Just got a 09 SS yesterday... had a quick question bout brakes (i did use the search but ould not find the answer)

Can I replace the black Covers of the front brembos (calipers?) with RED ones. It would just look so much better. If so where do I get them part #?

Thanks

which way do those pins come out when changing the fronts? does the pointed or flat part need to be hit to get them out?

I've heard good things from the guys who race cobalts that the OEM front pads can not be beat. So i decided to stick with all OEM on the front front brakes, and to put the cheeper stuff on the rears.

Front pads are toast after 46k on my 2009... I didn't know about them until my car failed state safety inspection. I think I'll go for the ACDelco 171-1012 pads listed on Amazon for $130.

Front (right) Brembo caliper: #25900764

The catalyst for me making this post was that I was looking today for pricing and availability for replacement pads ~ and happened to notice that the rear pads which I was told were the "updated" (also read as "fix" for our rear brake issues) now coming up as OEM ~ while they are for sure different parts...

original OEM rear pads: #93190338
current OEM rear pads: #15271565

BUMP!!!

I just got in my OEM rear pads from Crate Depot - decided I wanted to go back to OEM as the Advanced Auto pads work , but I don't think they stop as well. Could be in my head, but what the hey.

At any rate, I got some made in France 15271565's. We shall see - I suspect that if nothing else they ought to clean up my rotors since the OE's like to chew on rotors for all their meals, and I now know to lube the pins , and that I can do it without taking the wheels off or jacking up the car.

Great Brake Parts Source

There is a place called placeforbrakes.com in Miami.

They are a great brake part mail order operation.

I find they have the great prices, selection, and knowledge.

Good luck.
