In gear and rolling back?

Hey everyone,

Question...

Obviously our e-brakes aren't the greatest, so I pull it and leave my car in gear. It's usually 4th since I just pull it straight back.

Well today, I parked on a hill and put it in 4th and it started rolling down the hill, trying to turn the engine over..

Advice?

never leave it in a high gear, always the lowest, 1st or R

1st or reverse instead of 4th (if pointing uphill use 1st if downhill use reverse)

I put it in 1st and it stuck. Thanks! I've never heard that before

So should I worry about leaving it in 1st since it rolled on the other gears? I just don't want my car to end up in a tree lol.

And what causes the roll in the higher gears?

My 06 is the same way.I cant park my car where I have my z24,or any spot on a slight hill.I can leave it in any gear and it will start creeping every few seconds.I can keep my z in first gear with no e-brake and it doesn't move at all.My 06 has been doing like that since I bought brand new.I just learn to park with my wheel turned onto the curb lol.

if the car is in gear, it 1st gear it should not be moving. Period, if it is, you got problems. It being in gear, should stop from letting your axles and wheels spin.

basic mathematics

MU3 gear ratios:
Final Drive 1 2 3 4 5 R
4.05 3.38 1.76 1.18 0.89 0.70 3.17

MC2 gear ratios:
Final Drive 1 2 3 4 5 R
3.82 3.38 1.76 1.18 0.89 0.70 3.17

Thanks guys. Makes sense. It doesn't move in 1st, so I think I'm good!

The gear you use has nothing to do with the direction you're facing. An engine will turn either way just as easily when it's off. The most resistance will be in the shortest gear, which I believe on these cars is 1st. Other cars might be reverse, but honestly either gear should get the job done.

All that said, if the e-brake isn't holding the car in place, then get it fixed. If you're on a hill, best to have both in case one fails. It's not unheard of for a car to pop out of gear, and if you have a shitty e-brake...
