Installing new ECU with different VIN # than my balt

I bought an ECU off here a few months ago that is tuned already with HPT. It does not have my VIN# programmed into it. Thus my balt's VIN# and the ECU's VIN do not match.

I was wondering what I had to do to install the new ECU with no problems. All I know is that I have to disconnect the battery when swaping.

My biggest concern is some how losing warranty, or having the car lock up on me thinking it's being stolen (I heard this is possible but have no idea the truth behind it).

I tried posting this in the General Cobalt section, didn't have much luck. So I'm posting here now to get some better answers. Thanks guys

It will need to have your vin programmed in and you will need to do a CASE relearn. Oh almost forgot since your an LNF a CLUTCH relearn will be necessary as well.

Doubtful on that. The newer ECU's in the TC didn't need either case or clutch relearn but ymmv.

LSJ's are a different ECU.

I sold an ECU to a member with his VIN in it via HPT but he had to do a 30 min security relearn upon swap. It's on ZZP's website how to do it, prob by their ECU's.

I'm not saying he won't, just that the guy I sold one to didn't. Thanks for your input.

I switched my ecu with a spare I bought off here and all I had to do was turn the car on twice and it ran perfect. I think the vin code is stored somewhere else besides the ecu. Part number should match though
