Arrow just bought SS/TC im a rookie..

ive read on this forum for a few hours now and im more confused than when i started..

2008 SS/TC bone stock.
45k miles
do i actually need a tune with just an intake ?
will i need it if i wanted new IC piping with a BOV?
and if i have both will i need one.

i know im gunna get hated on for opening another thread, but i did try to find the answers, and google wasnt any help either. so for those of you who are actually going to answer me i thank you ahead of time. for those of you who wont and will bash, thank you, i will LOL im sure.

with those out of the way.. OTTPs intake is only 150$.. is it worth that? or should i go K&N.
and what other things should i want/need.

oh.. and im from rochester NY and there isnt a dang tuner close by.. so if i needed one.. any suggestions?

- Marc

Get the K&N. ZZP sells it for like $240. You don;t need to run a tune with an intake, but you aren't really going to see gains without a tune. If you want to run a BOV that vents to atmosphere, you need to be tuned for it. There are plenty of threads that debate Trifecta vs HPT. I went Trifecta for the simple fact that I don't know **** about tuning, and didn't have anyone near me that tuned HPT for the cobalt. HPT is the better option if you can find a tuner though.

Alot of people now are having issues getting a hold of Vince from trifecta. Vince is the only one at trifecta that does the tuning, so if you can't a hold of him to retune after he tunes you, your pretty much screwed. HPT is probably the best way tuning if you can find some one close, if not I think ZZP offers a tune with thier BOV set up.

Yeah, if you do go with Trifecta, order from BNR(badnewsracing.net). They've been awesome for me. I hear going through Vince can suck.

If you go through trifecta, get ahold of Geoff, he's local to you and a trifecta dealer. Use the trifecta site and look up dealer locations. He used to be on here as gdubs with a 360Whp lnf.

I just got mine a month ago. An 08 as well, get a k&n you'll love the response and sound. You won't want a bov after it's installed.

Welcome, car looks great! I'd remove that pinstripe though. Just get a K&N intake. No reason to get a BOV unless you go to a bigger turbo which requires one. You could look into a Forge BPV, but you'll be surprised with how loud just the K&N is.

iToastie when are you coming up? I could use it as an excuse to go to Rochester and get my Trifecta tune taken off.

Welcome
you def got some more reading to do an hour is a start for day one
Get the k&n-best quality fitment and sound
Dont get a bov-its a really expensive noise maker and the stock turbo isnt designed for it look into a forge bypass valve
Get zzp upper charge pipe and intercooler- the plastic pieces are subject to blow apart above 15psi
Get zzp down pipe-your choice catted or catless but stock is too restrictive
Contact john Powell for new trans mounts and cabs- stock ones will be bad soon anyway and if you want to put that power down your gonna need some of his parts DO NOT buy copycat ottp suspension parts buy Powell once
Get a good tune-everyone has to figure out there own route on this trifecta or hp do two hours reading on that topic and youll see the pros/cons of both

Welcome! To those that said get a K&N - I disagree. Read some bad stories about using a K&N on turbo cars.. Oil on the filter goes into the turbo.

Basic bolt-ons, man. It'll be a whole new car.

What? There is not enough oil on the filter to do any harm. More oil vapor comes from your pcv system right into the turbo then you could put on the filter. Unless you physically dunked it in a bucket of oil.

It is possible to get oil residue on your MAF if you overdo a re oiling after cleaning it.

I love my k&n. Installed it in about an hour. Put the filter in what I thought was the "11 o'clock position" and haven't had a single code yet. Been on for about 25,000km. I had it on while I was GMS1 and Trifecta.

Amazing sound, easy install, looks snazzy in the engine bay. Only negative is it is one of the most expensive intakes for our cars.
