There won't be many mechanics that will shell the valves. Most will just replace which =$$$$. Better off finding a fellow local SS'r who may have done it before

I just did mine 2 weekends ago, took about 5 hours start to finish, most of that was taping off and laying drop cloth cause that **** gets everywhere. If your not confident in yours skills don't attempt it because you can harm the motor

Yeah, never mind. Nobody on the Ecotec group has done it, and I'm definitely not comfortable trying it myself. Called a shop and they wanted $700.

I'll just do seafoam and see if that helps out. Gonna do that next oil change, so another 3000 miles or so.

Save the money. If the valves are bad seafoam won't do a thing.

Trust us. Nobody has any luck with it. You can't hardly get this stuff off.

You're most likely right, umrdyldo, but it's hard to save money when you have expenses + college. I'll try to save for it anyway, but I feel like it won't get done until several months from now or even deep into 2016.
If seafoam doesn't help at all, I won't just act like the problem can't be solved. I know taking it in to have the valves cleaned would be wiser to keep the car running longer.

CRC makes a GDI intake valve cleaner that promises rainbows and lollipops but I haven't heard any amazing things yet. Still a very new product. I got 2 cans thinking I would soak the valves in that after shelling but didn't need to. Could be worth a try.

Seafoam will not touch it

true..why waste money on seafoam if it doesn't do anything? Just wait until you has the money to get it done right.

I have a 2.0 ecoboost escape as well...same issue of course. But that IM seems to be easier to remove.....

I can't find anyone who is either
A) willing to help with it
or
B) knows how to do it.
I'll just save the money for it, but it sucks because my car is being a pain when trying to accelerate. If I am in 3rd or 4th gear and I accelerate, it doesn't want to hit boost anymore.
I'm hoping it's just because my catalytic converter downpipe needs to be replaced asap.

My car is in major limp mode. It won't accelerate past 6 psi, and it starts bogging down at 3k rpm. It wasn't doing this yesterday.
Could the bad cat be causing the limp mode? It's a significant loss of power. There's isnt a new code with the CEL either. It's still the P0420.

Try to tap the cat with a stick or something and try to listen and see if you can hear if it sounds like sand is in it. If you hear anything take it off the car and inspect it. I think it could be a clogged cat.

yes a bad cat can most definitely cause it to bog down, im almost certain that is your culprit, like Bryce said jack up the car and hit the cat and see if you can hear any type or rattle in there, if so your cat is bad and probably getting worse as you continue to drive it

Okay, thanks, guys. When I get a chance, I'll go under and see if I can replace it. I've got a spare cat downpipe sitting in the garage, just waiting to be installed. I'm just lazy, and truthfully, a bit nervous, too. I just don't wanna mess something up. lol
But people have told me it's a really easy job, so I'll check it out in a few days.

I'm not very mechanically inclined, so what might take 15 minutes for someone like you will surely take an hour for someone like me. Haha
I'm definitely going to give it a go in a few days, though.

To bad your in SoCal. I could clean your valves and swap the dp for like 200 bucks lol. And that would include a full fuel system service with it.

The only difficult part of taking out the downpipe is that you have pretty limited access to the bolts. You'll need extensions and u-joints.

I have tools, but I'm still 5 hours' drive away. I have the means to clean the valves but I've never done it. I got everything to do it, then my motor died and I got a new one.
