LNF drivetrain loss #'s

REALLY I'm looking for modded % losses. DO modded LNF cars have less/more drivetrain loss than a stock LNF? Have not seen it an any threads.....(other than some stock dynos pulling around 230-236 WHP which equalls 9-11% loss)

Most FWD cars in general of roughly our HP/TQ #'s seem to lose 12-18%. AWD cars seem to be consistantly 25-30%. RWD I've seen is somewhere in between. Do these LNF engines or other parts of the drivetrain/tranny somehow reduce drivetrain loss??? 9-11% seems pretty good. I'm curious who's dyno'd modded LNF's and what kind of losses or gains they have seen. I know the answer is useless as the loss will be there no matter what, but I've been learning a lil more about DT loss and just lookin for some more answers. Learn me. :P

how would someone determine the dt loss on a modded car, unless they tested crank hp and then compared that to whp. doubt anyone has done that.

If you could just get a % loss even on a stock LNF the percentage shouldn't change THAT much from stock to modded. Getting a modded loss % would involve someone modding the motor and pulling it out of the car, then hooking it back up to the chassis and dynoing again. I don't know that you'll find too many people on here with the resources for that.

14% average. Calculated from baseline dynos pulls using the estimated 260bhp as the denominator.

It's 24.5% on the automatic LNFs like HHR, Solstice, Sky using the same method.

A percentage is a percentage. The drivetrain total lose increases with amount of mods but the percent does not.

Thats pertty much what I suspected... % staying the same....but it just SEEMS that more aggressive parts and or higher quality parts.....lighter parts etc would make a difference and maybe significantly in some cases.

So 14% average on the LNF's huh? Not too bad I guess. Sorry if that seems newB but ya gotta learn somehow. Here's how I got those #'s of 9-11%.
260 stock with most pulls I'VE seen on CSS.net getting 230-236 WHP:
Take 260 X .89 = 231+WHP. That's 11% loss
Take 260 X .91 = 236+WHP. That's 9% loss

As far as getting modded #'s vs stock I figured they would have had stock %'s first then having being modded they could easily calculate the new HP #'s to see the loss % vs stock.

I guess FWD>RWD>AWD in this case. YAY for us.

24.5% would more likely be in the awd area

It's true. Autos make 185-200whp and manuals make 225-245.

It just seems like an absurdly high drivetrain loss

not always and autos w/ higher stall converters can complete w/ manuals

HUH? Absurdly high? 225-245 WHP is between 6 and 13% loss at most. That's pretty minimal IMO! Auto is way more bc is a parasitic loss.

I was saying 25% loss on a FWD auto seems high.

I watched an LE5 auto put down 142whp on the same dyno my LE5 manual put down 167whp (with a catback and a CAI)

I doubt catback and CAI is worth 25 whp.
