I see your point where it took longer than usual and they kinda jerk you around, but there are checks to be made, work to be done, etc. Some dealerships seem to be worse than most, I'd rather not paint them all with the same brush just because you had a slightly bad experience.
Why doesn't anyone ever lube their own brakes? Takes like 30 minutes and it is a maintenance item. It would take care of this issue 100%. Then we wouldn't have all these sad stories and so much hate to dealerships or gm. I'm not really trying to argue either, I just deal with this stuff everyday.
css is no place for common sense lol

Actually I'm convinced it's the stock pads that are the problem not the lack of lube on the pins (not that lubing wouldn't help). The pads chunk and destroy the rotor. I posted a pic from the Volvo Forum (which has identical brakes) and it showed an UNLUBED pin just like ours..no problems reported with those.

Here is a pic of the Volvo caliper being serviced..note the UNLUBED PINS:

I agree that the pads are what caused the rotors to get chewed up, which is exactly what GM was telling us. I also think the unlubricated slides caused the issue with the emergency brake not working correctly and the inside pad having premature wear. They were two different problems that we were trying to lump into one.

Believe me man, if i had 20k on my car i would have just done the brakes myself and upgraded to drilled and slotted units with Hawk pads, it just the fact that after 5k and my rear brakes were at 1mm of pad liife is called "PRE-MATURE" wear caused by something else. As far as lubing my pins, i did at 2k and i resurfaced my rotors due to them being warpped and giving my car the shakes. I feel no need to pay for things just cuz GM decided that they wanted to screw **** up and take the short cuts they did. I have no problem with maintaining my car and keeping up on things that need to be. Something things like this just have no excuse to wear that quickly. I go through about 3 or 4 times a week with Camry owners that have to shitty bridgestone tires on them that are bald by 18k. Its all about the fact of things wearing faster then they should. Oh, and on another note, NONE OF MY MODS WOULD CAUSE THE BRAKES TO WEAR FASTER THEN THEY SHOULD. Just incase you didn't see my mod list below.

Perhaps...but I think the crap comming off the pads got all over everything and I think the crud is more prone to deposit on the INNER side of the caliper..yep..where the pins are. THAT would cause them to possibly stick. I don't think the unlubed pins are the source of uneven wear, because the Volvo and Mazda people don't have the problem and I just CONFIRMED that the Volvo pins are not lubed either. As a matter of fact, I lubed my pins about 5K miles before the problem (metal on metal inner pad) surfaced. I now have CERAMIC pads on the rear and the rotors (new of course) are smooth as a babies butt.

I don't think it was a matter of *short cuts* here (non lubed pins)..the PADS were either defective or not proper for this application. They flat out fell apart and broke off into tiny metallic chunks....scoring the rotor and possibly fouling up the pins with pad debris. Just my take.
