And where did that "predicted value" come from?..
Hagerty, a provider of collector car insurance, has released its list of 100 Future Collector Cars Under $100,000. - July 2010 - #81 Yellow - 2009 Cobalt SS/TC Sedan "rated at $49k in 2020"

I take my last comment back - this guy is on crack.

here I compiled this info recently HERE;
2005 SS/SC = 3,093
2006 SS/SC = 17,464
2007 SS/SC = 10,566
2008 SS/TC = 1,766
2009 SS/TC = 3,040
2009 SS/TC-sedan = 759
2010 SS/TC = (yet to be determined)

althoug hI sometimes read of people thinking that a car which has a total production run of 25,000 or 50,000 is rare, I think those people are crazy...
a total (yearly) production run of under 10,000 is rare - but when you factor in the high attrition rate of faster cars, this becomes ever more apparent...

These cars ARE rare... does that equate to them eventually being worth anything? - who knows...

I'm done with the 60's cars and think the cost is way out of hand for what you get. For me the Cobalt is more fun to drive than my 69 SS was and uses far less gas. So I can see others making the switch too. Especially when they can pick up a used Cobalt SS/TC fairly cheap in comparison
IMHO, this guys is bang on.

I personaly wouldn't give up on a pre-smog V8/rwd car... nothing quite replaces them...

but I loike my Cobalt enough to have no plans what so ever to sell mine

I guess it's all opinion..I just don't see a car you can find all over the internet FS (Very cheap), So many sold for thousands under MSRP, and you can still go to a dealer and buy new rare. IMO, being limited is a bad thing, it messes with aftermarket support, etc. Just because they made less than 10K TC doesn't mean it's going to be worth anything anyways. Company's will keep coming out with better FI 4cyls. It's not like the old turbo K cars, turbo Daytona's, Turbo Omni GLH, Turbo Probes, Turbo Colts, Turbo Celica, VR4's, etc are worth crazy money.

by numbers this car is rare and will be worth something someday... how much? who knows... im taking good care of mine... for the nay sayers... who considers a gmc sonoma a collectors car that is rare? noone ... but when it's the cyclone edition... well now those are worth something now and becoming more and more rare and can go for a decent price... so why can't a cobalt be worth something someday? it probably will because of what it is and the fact that 90% of them will be blown up or wrecked by the young drivers who buy them...

IDK about all of them...but deff not the Vr4.. That's AWD 4G63...

So are all limited runs going to be worth money, SVT/Saleen focus, Roush/Saleen Mustangs (many being way more exclusive), etc. What really makes the TC more desirable to own in the future, besides the fact you own one so your all for the idea of it being worth something someday.. Why did they only make the Cobalt for one gen?

What's your prediction, id the TC going to be worth more than the GTO, etc?

I have 1 of the 1,766 2008 SS/TC

I believe by reseach the one I have is one of the original 200 off the line. I wish I could find out exactly where it fell.

All of the 2dr & 4dr where built on the same assy line, there wasn't any order, N/A or S/C or T/C.. what ever what coming down the line with a (PBS) production built sheet - was built that day or night.. the car that was built before your car could have been a 2.2 or 2.4 or 2.0, the same for the next car.. i almost had a silver 09 TC Sedan #000007..

although I find no fault with the jist of your post, there's a fatal flaw;
  • S/C & T/C were never built at the same time (this is a T/C tread after all)
  • n/a & T/C were never built at the same time

to expand upon that;
  1. the S/C was dropped after the 2007 model year ended.
  2. the n/a continued to be built into 2008, albeit renamed 'Sport', but iirc the 'Sport' (moreover the LE5 egine in the Cobalt) was quietly dropped when the SS(T/C) started being built...
  3. the 'Sport' model was replaced with the LT2 w/sport appearance package ~ which was essentially the same car, but with the 2.2L LAP engine in place of the LE5.

I'm in So Cal and I've only seen ONE and that was about 3 years ago!
I live in a town of 150k and on weekends I see more SRT4's than any other 4cyl sport based car.. So many of them around here its crazy..

In the entire time I have been driving this car ( Nov 2008) I've maybe seen 1 or 2 SS/TC's on the road.

I've seen more z06's and other cars that aren't usually a daily drivers more than SS Cobalts..

Just sayin

Yeah, they made a bunch on Srt-4's. ..well not as many as the SS/SC, etc but still quite a bit. IIRC they made a hair under 25K of them. I would seriously love to know how many have hit the scrap yard.

I recently sold my cobalt ss/tc for 15800 in september. Got what I owed plus the money I put down back and half of what I paid for my modifications, so I believe I made out. I won't sell a car for a loss unless I desperatly need too

Yeah, I really don't see many Srt's, SS's, Evo's, STI's, etc. I deff see more Sti's than Evo's though. I know of 1 TC local.

thats probly what they said in the 60's with their muscle cars and look at their value today. 1969 gto judge was a cheaper car back in the day and look at the prices now...good luck touching one in any other color but orange for under 100k. Less TC's were made then judges btw
