Rear Brakes FILE COMPLAINT HERE SO WE CAN GET A RECALL
i am waiting on the dealer to call me and let me know when my pads and rotors are in. that was last monday. they also said there is a new TSB out on the brakes and there is a mileage cut-off for warranty i believe. i was over it, i think it is 10k miles, but they said they are going to take care of it
Lol! My car is too fast and it scares me, even when I lightly apply gas, the low end power is great, this is potentially dangerous. I am going to apply for a recall.
I'm going with a third choice - GM did not lubricate the sliding pins on the calipers, causing the pads to bind, instead of releasing. Remember, the SS is the only Cobalt with rear disc brakes. However, I'm just a Chemist, not an automotive engineer. Obviously, GM did something wrong.

09 Cobalt SS, rotors turned at 4600, pads & rotors replaced with proper lubrication at 8000, looks good at 9500.

My warranty rear brake paperwork included "lube caliper pins & slides". That's kind of unusual to list with a brake job, unless it is an issue.

Some idiot tried to do something similar on the speed 3 forums. Get It fixed under warranty Whig has been done for many even at 10k miles or get new pads/rotors. It's less than $100 for all that and you are trying to get a recall? Hahahahaha won't happen.
My '09 SS/TC (7,500 miles) goes in for state inspection/emissions on Jan 4th, so today I decided to take another look at the rear brakes (fronts are in great shape).
Well, the inside of the rear brake rotor is grooved deeply from the brake caliper coming in contact with it. Outside of the rotor is fine.
Is this because the caliper pins/slides need to be lubed, or is it simply because the brake caliper was cast wrong? There is a 'knob' on the caliper(at the top/inside) that is digging into the rotor. If I would grind this off it would allow the brake pad to do its job, and would have no adverse affects on the caliper itself.
I'm anxious to see how my Chevy dealer is going to take care of this. I fully expect it to be covered under the 3/36, including new rotors.

My opinion is that they failed to lube the pins.
Whatever, make a complaint to the DOT! Last time I looked, there were a little over 100 complaints on this for the 08 & 09 Cobalt SS. Even if your dealer handles it under warranty, many don't, and the DOT needs to know the extent of the problem.

I just had to replace my rear rotors and brakes. I had less than 20,000 miles on my car. The oddest thing was that I had just had my brakes inspected at my last oil change which was a little less than 3,000 miles ago and at that time there were no problems. So in less than 3,000 miles my rear pads wore down all the way and did enough damage to destroy the rotors. I am calling in my complaint first thing on monday.
At close to 1500 miles I lost an oil pressure sensor, I could see the scoring on the outside of the rotors, at 2500 the chrome came off of the door handle on the driver side, and the shift boot came apart, at three thousand I lost a tranny, and at 5500 the chrome came off of the other door handle and the brakes are squealing like no ones business and had the valve cover seal replaced because it was leaking. my car has spent more than a month total in the f***ing shop over the last year. I am not very happy. I have brought it in three times for the damn brake issue, and each time they gave me the **** about the "high performance" brakes, well let me tell you something, one, there is nothing "high performance" single piston brakes. and two I worked at the damn stealership into which I take the damn car! And to think I took delivery of my car in july of 09

I finally got my brakes fixed right at 8000 miles, and at 12000 miles, the rotors still show the machining marks.

I had my pads & rotors replaced and slide pins lubed at 8000 miles. Now at 12000 miles, the rotors still look new. The shop manager did say the parts numbers were changed, so maybe that is significant.

Did the paperwork indicate that they lubed the caliper slide pins?

Thankfully this happened before my inbound pad was hosed, I still have 7mm inside and 7mm outside on both rears
. That said, I still think GM needs to answer to why they are NOT greasing these from the factory.
