Rear caliper replacement problems
Both of my rear calipers on my 08 ss/tc have had the e-brake lever fail (you can pull the e-brake, watch the caliper lever spin and the piston does not move). I have tried to purchase replacement calipers from rock-auto and autozone and both have been stock replacements for the normal cobalt. I am assured by both of these companies that their replacements will also fit the ss/tc but they are completely different given that the ss/tc rotors are vented and much thicker. The e-brake lever is oriented 90 degrees off and the bracket that bolts to the caliper is not wide enough to clear both pads and the rotor. The two OE caliper bolts are a different thread and much longer/thicker and cannot be reused with the replacement which does not allow the reuse of the bracket that holds the pads. Anyone know why all of these parts companies think that all cobalts as well as malibus have the same rear brakes? Or am I just being crazy and completely missing something? Also, anyone know where can I get OE style replacement rear calipers without having to pay $175 ea from GM?

gmpartsdirect has them for $130 + shipping. Probably about the best you'll do for a new, OEM replacement. Part number is 25902073 according to this thread:

Thanks Koz. I did a bit more digging and from what I can find The 08-10 SS/TC's have different rear brakes than the 05-07 SS/SC's which use the same rear calipers and rotors as all cobalt trim levels. My buddy has an 06 SS/SC and he has plain solid rotors with the calipers that look exactly like what I've mistakenly purchased several times. I guess someone needs to pass this information on to parts suppliers...
