Holy **** dude! I remember you posting those pics you took a couple weeks ago...

On the other hand, I had a Cavalier that was a write off, auto wreckers / body shop rebuilt it and it drove great...

Indeed it will never drive the same and I will be killed with depreciation and resale value (as if our cars weren't bad enough). My fiances brother is an adjuster so he may take a look at it since when her Audi was hit in the front the original adjuster said that it wasn't totaled, but he got it totaled for her.

I'll keep you posted. I should have more info around mid-morning monday.
I went to school for collision work. If the block/tranny case is NOT cracked, then it will NOT be totalled. I don't know how the hell you plan on claiming $16,000.00 worth of damage on that thing. I just don't see that much damage there. It really isn't that bad.

hate to be the bearer of bad news but they are going to fix the car ive seen worse than that and they fixed it. The damage has to be 75-80% ACV (actual cash value) So basically 15k in damage and that my friend is not. It hit above the cradle as well They may have to replace a frame rail thats about it the rest is cosmetic. (and if you have progressive since it wasnt your fault you will be reimbursed for the decrease value of the car from the accident)

Also, if the accident is NOT your fault, the insurance company will fight to get it repaired regardless of cost since it wasn't your fault. My buddies 05 Evo was side swiped and went off the road. The insurance company paid $30,000.00 in damages to his car and all the aftermarket accessories he had for it.

it looks as if your frame is probably fine.... judging from the height of the impact. Id take it to a bodyshop that does higher end cars, and the estimate will be much higher. You have a right to have whoever you want estimate and then repair. I totaled a truck at age 16. truck was worth 26ish, they estimated at first 10500 for repair, I took mine to royal auto body in west chicago, estimate was 17,000 ish for all oem mopar, multiple coats of paint and clear. 10500 was american family's estimate using all available aftermarket stuff... Sooooo they totalled it and cut me a check.... New car thank you very much.

Youll get a new car if you play your cards right

yeah but one of the main reasons the estimates are higher is because there is no aftermarket for our SS body kits available yet and i told them EVERYTHING was to be replaced with OEM parts and have a detailed report and parts breakdown of what was done

I was not in the car (I was at work 26 miles away) at the time of the accident or I would be reporting this to you from my bed at home.

Not everyone drives to work. I work at a university. I don't take my car anywhere NEAR that ****. The ****** kids there have NO respect for anyone else's property and my car would get keyed, dented, and scratched to hell. If something happens that I have to drive and park at work, I pay $20/day for one particular garage because of the badass parking spaces I can find.

ok yeah if they total it it would be worth it to buy it back and part it out... i think u buy it back for like 10-15% of value so maby like 2-3k if u have that much money i would do it... you can sell the motor and part out the car... personaly if i had another 2-3k laying around i would do it... or u can get a sc cobalt and just twin charge it for under what ur gona buy the tc for :P

He was at work as stated, car was parked on the street and got hit while he was up in his office...

That car does not look bad enough to be totalled out. Repair needs to be at least 75% of the cost of the car for a total.

Exclamation Update

well here's the current status ...

The owner from the towing company saw that I was distraught and offered some assistance since he's seen some people get screwed around by insurance companies before and didn't like the fact that this was happening to me (he has 6 daughters which one of them was in the same situation before). He contacted a lawyer for me, auto body place (Chevy dealer) and car rental agency all for me within 10 minutes.

Scenario 1 (The impound lot owners goal):

- My car on Monday is going to Rothrock Chevrolet where they'll either:

A. Total the car and I'll get a check cut from State Farm (PLUS I'll be contacting State Farm with an actual statement of how much money on the car's value I lost due to the fact of the accident)

OR

B. They'll repair the car and resell it, pay off my loan (I'll still get money from State Farm for the lost value) and they will get me into a new Cobalt at the same payments.

Scenario 2:

- I contacted a close family friend who is an insurance adjuster and he said that he could look into the car further to see if there's internal damage (cracked transmission case, oil pan, etc.). Then we can go from there to determine how much $$ I would get in ACV + lost value on the accident in residual value..

Scenario 3 (least likely):

- I get the car fixed, have it on my mind everyday that this car will never run the same, has a dirty carfax, wonder if it can hold up to the mods I will put into the engine, and feel violated by the insurance companies since they're dicking around with me and actually making money off of me who was parked on the street not moving whatsoever.

Again fellas, THANK YOU for all your input on this. This is a trying time for me as I've never encountered this situation within a short time span of owning the car. A special thanks to a select few who mentioned some great dealers who they've purchased from in the area and their help on locating another Victory Red.

If you can please stop Pming me with part requests. The car is sitting for at least another 3 days until I figure out what I want to do. I know I could make a killing on parts, but right now I'm trying to get "whole" again and back into a Cobalt SS.
