I kept hearing that it would roast the tires off in 2nd gear and that it was hitting 22 psi and holding 21 psi (08inbama said that I believe)

The SC tune for the LS1s makes almost as much power as a custom tune. IDK why they made this tune so conservative.

Beats me...maybe they were being conscious of the clutch? I mean it SC clearly makes more power than stock but not nearly as much as a custom tune makes. With all your mods how is your clutch holding? I'm going to have a guy I found in my area tune me with HPTuners and teach me a thing or 2 and buy it myself that way when I make further modifications I can adjust for them. Don't get me wrong if you're looking for a very reliable conservative tune for cheap or don't have a tuner in your area...Superchips does it on this thing...but if you need more power beyond what drew made...probably not the best route.

My clutch is ok but I never go WOT at less than 3200 or so unless I am in 1st gear. Low rpms higher gear is just asking for the clutch to slip.

Sheeeet - I caved and bought them both. Superchips and Trifecta.

Gonna compare and see what I like. See what drives better and see what performs better.

I got tired of the back and forth B.S. so I am gonna do everyone contemplating a solid.

Superchips tuner got to my house today, will likely install it tomorrow or Friday if it only takes a few minutes.

Trifecta shipped today to my house in NJ from WA.

It's gonna be fun....I hope.

I am VERY leery of what people say about Trifecta being too rich and that it might cause issues with my car. It is a daily driver of a 70 mile commute. I cannot afford for something catastrophic to happen.

My first instinct was to go Superchips - then I got the HP bug and called Vince.

Wish me luck.

superchips takes about 2 minutes, and you should definitely go do them both now! lol

Wonder what would happen if I COULD do them both right now????

Gonna be SCT up first and see how I like, then Trifecta. With the SCT I will have the stock tune loaded into the tuner. If I don't like Trifecta or whatever, I will load the SCT tune back onto my car and stick with it.

The SCT tuner will be good to put me back to stock also.

How long does a Trifecta take to install and datalog?

I'm not too sure, maybe someone else can chime in here, I'd say it can't take too much longer.....

So whats the word man, which one you like?

Well I am going to do the Superchips tonight - it arrived yesterday. Might get some rain here, so we will see if the whole "2nd gear rolling burnout is possible".

The Trifecta tune is being mailed out today - so I will have have a solid week or so with the Superchips.

I have the superchips on my hhr ss and love it, i think it made a huge difference in performance. I think it is perfect for a daily driver and i love the fact the cortex allows me to adjust shift points, pressure, datalog, reflash to stock, etc.

Automatic's ..... I think he is talking about shift point pressure thou.

Well i just flashed the car with the V114 database and the file numbers in my car didn't change .......so there is no reason for cobalt owners to bother with this one. Until Superchips gets off there collective asses i'll post when there is an update to even bother with.

This was a post in flashpaq.com

"I have the cortex and tune for a 2008 HHR SS auto. I love the tune, it made a huge difference in the performance of the car.

I have a few questions on using the tuner though. On the custom settings, it allows you to adjust the shift points on the car. It has settings such as 16psi, 18psi and 20psi for each gear. Does this mean the car will boost to that psi at redline in that gear? What is the default superchips quick tune set at?"

wierd

This post really scares me > from HP tuners forum

:
we found out the main cause of my destroyed intake valves on my brand new cobalt today. due to us changing the cam timing tables we are causeing a rapid return to position especially on the intake when we let off the gas. due to rapid closing the spring pressure from the factory springs in the motor could not keep tho rocker arm and valve following on the camshaft thus slamming down once the base circle comes around. my repair to the problem is better valve springs for the vehicle, or if needing to run the al the factory equipment due to factory spec racing then some sort of orifice must be installed into the oil return port for the phasers. the goal is to allow the phasers to bleed out but not to quickly so the camshaft wont rotate to harshly and allow the valve and rocker to follow the camshaft still.

this event happens once you let off the gas from hard to medium load pulls that result in using the 90-100% load columns.

just helpfull info to prevent the smashing of more valves. ive seen three sets so far

Cobaltssoverbooster is the only one who has had that issue and he has a fully ported head and a bunch of other mods to the head I believe.

Yeah he has a lot of portins modifications...nothing I would consider doing. Although, I don't know which of those modifications he had before he blew it.

Yeah I actually went on Tuesday and didn't really run spectacular times...They did one of the worst perp jobs ever...I couldn't get my 60s under 2.4. That was my last time with it before I uninstalled it and sold it. I qualified for the Akron Horsepower 100mph club and finally achieved it and got the award with a trap of 105.3mph.

I certainly will miss the Superchips tune and I hope that the custom tune I get tomorrow reminds me of this car's potential. And of course you can guarantee I'll be posting a review of the difference. Like I've said before...I will never put down the Superchips tune because it certainly performs much better than stock all around. I'm just a power hungry greedy M-Fer that's never satisfied.

On a side note...at the track there was a brand new GTR there with a COBB tune and he ran a 11.06 @130 and backed it up with a 11.21 at 128 with a bogged ish launch. There was also a 2004 Mercedes E55 AMG with God nows what done to it that beat the GTR on it's second run and ran an 11.04 at 131...I felt slow

The roads were damp here this morning and a 2nd gear 35 mph rolling burnout is the **** lol. If i had that capability on all road conditions .....I would have a busted car lol. It is so addicting , i couldn't help myself lol ......then the roads dried up and the 2nd gear spin turned to squeaking

As long as you make small smooth changes it is ok I have never had an issue.
