Trans fluid
Trans fluid
Anyone know what type of fluid goes in the lnf Trans? I hear I can use royal purple gear lube but the dealership says of course to use theirs. But at 25 $ a qt??!
No Royal Purple. Nothing with limited slip additives as the diff is a sealed unit.
RedLine MT85 GL-4 is as close to the OEM fluid as you can get. It is Castrol Syntrans and very hard to locate in the states.
Do not use any GL-5 fluid.

Gear oil part number 21018899 LSJ;
88862472 fluid is the fluid that is spec for the F35s as used im the LNF. Canadian GM part number is different. whatever it is GDS
Its a Silkolene or Castrol GL4 type fluid, the original stuff is "BOT 0063", the new stuff is "BOT 0402", the major difference being its thinner than the original. The 21018899 is roughly something between a 75w85 and a 75w90, the new stuff is roughly between a 70w80 and a 75w85.
1.8 litres/say 2 quarts when you spill a little filling the trans.

get gm recommended stuff.
that is all.
the stuff is good for the life of the transmission, according to gm. i dont trust that, but i didnt do my ion redline until 150000 kms. still looked okay, im sure it wasnt though. smoother shifts now.

I think it is fair to change it every 50 k miles if you are modded, and otherwise if stock, every three years or 75 k miles. My guess. Factory say leave it alone, and Ktrain just explained what he did.
If you do a clutch, or remove the transmission for any reason from the car, I always do:
TOB. Clutch pipe. Axle seals. Trans fluid.
cheers
