What RPM do you try to hit for perfect NLS?

Hi, just joined the SS cult. This may be a stupid question but I don't want to do too much trial and error if I don't have to.

I just finished my 500 miles so I can play a bit. Rather than trial and error, I thought I'd ask what RPM are you guys shifting at to get the 'single perfect pop'?

If I'm not mistaken you need to hit the shift between 6,000rpm and redline... Someone can maybe confirm/correct me?

Ya, but if you hit it just right you get a single pop. If you do it too late you bounce off the rev-limiter, so I guess I'm just asking if you are finding a consistant rpm point where you can fire it off perfectly every time.

I haven't been able to consistantly hit it perfectly.

LOL, ya, cult . I mean that in a good way.

Maybe I'm not shifting fast enough honestly. I hit it about 1/3 of the time, then I get too many pops other times.

You should be as close to redline as possible...if you're bouncing off the revlimiter, you're either waiting too long before shifting, or taking to long to actually shift. Practice makes perfect.

No. Car runs out of steam before that. Once the boost starts to fall off you should be shifting. Redline is NOT always the best place to shift.

The RPD has a shift light mode, and for good practice try doing 2-3 NLS it doesn't come up as fast as the 1-2 so you can prepare for it better and find your'e sweet spot.

The key to NLS is a very fast shift, there shouldn't be any time to hear multiple pops. The computer lets go of the boost-hold mode after .2 second. Shift quicker.

Cobalts actually do have a shift light. I just had a 2008 2.2 stick and it had a shift light that came on when to shift for the best gas mileage. On my new TC, the light is still there, its the light on the top right of ur gauge cluster that is never light. Looks like a round gear. They disabled it on the SS models. If u can just wire that up and tune it maybe it can act as a shift light to whatever RPM u want. its worth a shot.

This is a quote reviewing the 2009 LS, but just for proof " There's also a telltale light on the instrument panel that illuminates between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm, a measure that is meant to inspire you to get better fuel economy by changing to a taller gear.

Though we followed the advice of the shift light almost exclusively over the course of a thousand miles, we achieved a worst tank of 22 mpg, a best tank of 29 mpg and an overall average of 25 mpg"

Its not adjustable via the PCM though. Its there for economy only on base MT vehicles. Trucks, cars, whatever. They all have it.

If you look at the dyno graphs for stock turbo cars... these cars fall on their faces about 6300 or so....

I would shift right at about 6k for optimal power!

haha.^^^^. My crotch rocket has a shift light too but it's really hard to use because at 16,000 redline it's hard to look down at it.
