All depends on the dealer but they have to prove it was the part that caused the problem. Im fully bolted and tuned and still have my warranty 100%. I have a badass dealership... CED FTW

...
I've heard the line used is that part 'X' made to engine put out more power, which caused part 'Y' & 'Z' to break;
hense no warranty coverage on this repair...

Also @ Frog;
You do know that there are poeple from outside of the United States that post here right?
laws change from country to country, and even state to state;
and if you're in a stage/region where a dealer can legitimately get away with screwing you over - how few poeple would take it to court?

in the end, if you want to avoid any chance of headache, let the car "break in" with stock, or warranty approved parts for the duration of said warranty - then go hog-wild

Yeah I do know there are people outside the USA that post here. Wasn't thinking about it though. My comment is definitely aimed at those of us in the USA and are directly related to the Magnuson-Moss Act.

It says aftermarket parts dont void warranties and that if manufacturers try to, they have to prove that the part caused the problem.... UNLESS the warranty specifically says that adding aftermarket parts voids the warranty.

Does the Cobalt warranty specifically say we can't add aftermarket parts? I doubt it bc I'm sure the stage upgrades are considered aftermarket in some way.

I'm sure a lot if it has to do with the service dept itself. Gotta get lucky and find a cool one. At the same time, don't expect to get warranty work if your car is heavily modified. That's just absurd. Getting an exhaust and intake (non cold air) or something like that shouldn't cause any problems. Head work, turbo upgrade, stuff like that, don't even bother.

Are you paying for the car? No? Then guess what, leave it alone.

That could be a totally valid argument. If you do something to add a lot of power and break your transmission its correct. If your radio craps out not so much.

People never think of this for some reason but its not always hard to tell if something has been removed and put back on when you try to back to stock.

Im in MD and my dealer told me that intake and exhaust dont void the warranty. So of those i know that they dont void it. And i also asked him about transmission mounts and he said those were ok to. And this is the guy who owns the dealership.

Thing to remember is that's HIM. Other dealerships may not be so cool despite the Federal Act stated above.

Question for the techs... How much less does warranty work pay?

My only mods are catless dp, and my dealership greifed me a bit. But ultimately what most people have eluded too.

They will still fix your broken power window, if you have a intake. However if your turbo blows up, they probably will tell you its because of the intake. Lol

no all dealerships would honor the warranty. If they didn't they wouldn't be a gm dealer very long. Gm is very serious about keeping there people happy. I know one dealer thats been dropped from gm because they were a terrible dealership and did really stupid stuff like not fix things under warranty or when they did fix things they bubble gum'd it together.

I had read that the # of times an ECM had been flashed was only traceable in 2011's++ and that our 2008-2010 Balts are ok. And what the other guy had said, they can't trace your trifecta, Unless they send it in to GM for a complete meltdown test basically lol.
As for modding, it depends on the dealer as to how they deal with it. If they want a return customer, they'll help u out unless ur an idiot and screw **** up stupidly, or ur a screaming idiot too. There are good and bad dealers everywhere, depends on the relationship u have with them, but by law, they can't void ur warranty, as others have stated, unless it's proven that the part(s) in question caused the failure. Some are on the positive side of this, and others, more on the negative side. Basically, find a good dealer to deal with and they'll take care of you as long as ur not a total idiot.
