Wind damaged T/C w/warranty
Wind damaged T/C w/warranty
Hey all-as a(fairly)new owner of an '08 SS/TC I just wanted to relate my shopping/buying experience with the hope that somehow it may be helpful to prospective buyers. Thanks to this site I was aware that a sizeable batch of "wind-damaged" '08 SS/TC's were out there and sans paint/body warranty. In November I began perusing the web for any '08-'09 coupes wi LSD in Sport Red,Blue or Black. I found most on AutoTrader.com and Cars.com and made a point to correspond with salesmen by e-mail only, initially, simply to have in writing any particulars regarding said vehicle. I didn't want any surprises after travelling ? miles to buy a car sight unseen(as it turned out I bought my car in Michigan;just shy of 500 miles). In addition to my above requirements each e-mail requested info on warranty/title status. It soon became apparent that the vast majority of low mileage reasonably priced 08's fell into the wind damaged category. Apparently the factory sold these @ auction in Michigan to dealers throughout the midwest and beyond. One dealer said his "wind damaged" units had been sent to New Mexico for "testing" and were in a sandstorm while in transit!? Please note:many of these dealers did not immediately offer up this info-some it took 2-3 e-mails and a little prodding to get what I needed. Turns out the TC I purchased was the only one I inquired about that had actually been sent back to GM and re-painted and consequently carries the full factory warranty. I picked it up fully loaded with 288 miles for $18,700(asking price was $20,900). The dealership was actually going to fly me in and pick me up @ the airport but I took a friend,my truck and a new set of Bridgestone Pole Position A/S's (TireRack FTW) and had them mounted immediately(They did cut me a $100 check for travel expenses-pretty cool). It's a good thing I took the Bridgetones because I took delivery Dec. 1 and caught ice/snow coming back through Mich/Ind. Saw a couple yellow SS's on the way up and a silver one near Muncie! Thanks again to this forum;I hope this isn't all old news.
