wtf car wont turn offf

I got home today same routine pull the e-brake and half way out the door the key wont turn back to the off position. So I sit back in and its stuck wont turn back wiggle it nothing so I drive up to the dealership and the tech looks at it and says he doesnt know. The service writer says that they cant get to it today b/c it is 5:15 to bring it in tomorrow. So I said what am I suppose to do the car wont turn off and the tech says to pull the fuse and disconect the battery.

I have to drive to work tomorrow and do that whole procedure wtf taking it in tomorrow to see what they will do and if they cant fix im going to make them give me a rental this is rediculous

no joke...had this problem like a week ago. first i would pull the 2 fuel fuses but then I jus stalled it, way easier, then unpluged the battery. its a pretty common thing to happen. i jus took mine to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty but they wouldnt give me a rental so if they give you one ask for a camaro and let me know how it goes hahahahaha.

"Come back tomorrow?... The car won't turn off!" LOL

Yeah the ignition probably broke. I've heard of a few other cases where it happened. Sometimes in the auto transmission 'balts, it was a case of the tranny wasn't allowing the key to be taken out since it didn't think it was in neutral or park.

Sounds to me like the key pins are stuck/broken and the ignition cylinder itself isn't recognizing that as the correct key. Kinda like tryin to use your car key to get in ur house...unless ur front door is a door off a cobalt lol

In any event, the cylinder is fucked and they gotta tear apart the plastics around the steering column and replace it. This in no way could be an electrical problem tho if the cylinder isn't turning in any direction

Same **** happened to mine except my car was off. They key wouldn't move at all. I could take it in and out but it just wouldn't move. Had to get it towed to a dealer and they replaced the ignition cylinder.

Wtf! You're lucky as hell. I got mine towed to my dealer the Thursday before Easter and didn't get it back until the next Wednesday.

Glad everything worked out for you though.

To the OP and the rest with the problem. Your ignition has to be cut to your key that's why it takes several days to get it. I'm not gonna quote the guy who said it but they are exactly right the problem is the tumbler mechanism itself, the pin breaks off thus the ignition will not allow the key to be removed since it wont rotate.

I used a classic method that I was actually hoping wouldn't work so easily but it did. I bumped the key while under tension to get it out. It turned after a couple tries, repeated this the next morning to get it to the dealer, I figured I could avoid possible electrical system damage if I could get it to turn. I did NOT remove the key (don't or this wont work to repeat the process).

If your not sure what I'm talking about and you google it to figure it out don't even attempt it. Feel free to disconnect your battery after stalling the car...why not, GM will fix it right? I just didn't want the hassle or the possibility of an ongoing problem.
