Did not know that, Now I don't want either.

Will a 245 40 18 thompson et street radial fit on the stock rim without rubbing?

Also what do you guys think about the Kumho Ecsta V700, They are on Closeout right now for 165, only problem is its a 225 40 which is pretty narrow. But for the price they might be worth it.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Also they have the colored smoke Kumho Ecsta SPT for 188 in a 235 40 18 which is a little wider. I just don't know how good those tires are either.

Or should I just go with a 245 40 18 thompson? Will those fit?

its called driving like you have some self control when its wet. I don't race or drive aggressively in the wet. And I live in Tucson AZ, where there is not much of this wet you speak of. Great tire in the dry, and I also got them in 235/40/18's for 89.00 a tire

the V700 is a road racing r-compound, they are not drag radials and you won't benifit much from getting them. Your best buy is just looking for a specific drag radial. BFG makes decent street drag radials.

You wouldn't run those DRs on a road course would you?

your going to use these for road racing? Good luck with that! They're called drag radials for a reason, even if you attempted to road race you probably won't pass tech inspection with DRs on... It's so surprising how many ppl think getting autox/track tires will help them with drag racing and vice versa..

I agree. DRs are designed to have sidewall flex something you want very little of if you road course or autocross the car.

To each his own. They are inexpensive tires. They are way worse than the stock contis in the rain though and I get a ton of it here in Florida. I was not attacking you just stating a fact. Car and Driver did a test involving a ton of different tires including the stock Contis and the Hankooks. The Contis had a wet grip on the skid pad of 0.80 G. While the Hankooks had only 0.69 G of Grip. That is a huge difference for people who drive in the rain a lot. Their dry grip is good. Slightly better than the stock Contis at 0.94 G vs 0.93 G. The Hankooks also take 6 more feet to stop from 50 mph in the wet than the stock Contis.

I am not sure what the factors were in your testing but they have dropped my 60' by 2 tenths over the stock contis, and for cornering they are much nicer. Again wet traction is not a factor for me.

You know I decided I need a new set of tires myself. I've been looking at the Nitto Invo. Since I have to suffer through snow (which sucks) I need somthing with a little block pattern. Granted the invo has little less than a conti which has literally none they look like they might be a compromise I can live with. Has anyone tried a set of these and used them through a winter snow season? The reviews on the Discount tire site look pretty positive.

I did not test them, Car and drive tested them along with 10 other tires. Read what I wrote. Dry cornering is slightly better with the Hankooks. Braking in the dry is about the same. You are one of the few for which wet grip is normally a non issue. For the vast majority of us wet traction and braking is pretty important.

The Ecsta V700 are a R compound road course or autocross tire but they will have a ton more grip than the stock tires. They have only ~60 treadwear rating so they wont last long at all. MT ET streets are more suited to the Drag strip. Which tire you should choose depends on what your intended purpose is.

I drove it all last winter on the stock conti's. What are ya wuss's Naw seriously theres only about ten days a year when its any kind of issue and I drive the HHR when the road isn't plowed or salted and its only 16 miles round trip to work. I ain't settling for all season crap tires or winter tires. I really don't have enough days I have to really deal with it to justify it.

Wuss's, no were just not cheap fools , In chicagoland weve had 3 days in the last week where ive needed them.

All it takes is 1

-sleet
-turn
-icy intersection
-Moron in front of you
-storm you werent expected

i spent 250 on wheels, and 350 on tires. Its nice being able to stop going downhill in the snow, or be able to climb up a steep one. and its REALLY nice being able to stop with only 1 or 2 clicks from the abs in a few inches of crap. You spent how much on a cobalt, and your shopping a summer tire based on looks, as if looks mean good winter performance...
now that **** is funny
