4.45 gears question

Just installed a 4.45 tranny into my car yesterday and just wondering if the noises it's making are normal

I get a decently loud grinding/whiring/white noise/static type noise when I'm off the throttle but goes away when clutch pedal is pushed down

Had it in my stock trans and just chalked it up to clutch noise(spec3+) but it's louder in this trans.

Or did I get a bunk tranny...?

They are noisier than the 3.82. If you want to get annoyed drive next to the concrete barrier on the highway. The trans worked for over a year making similar noises for me. I asked Powell about it and he said it was fine.

Is your engine screaming all the time when cruising now?

Did Powell say exactly what it was? Is it the diff making the noise or the actual gears? I've always been curious.

My car makes the same grinding type noise on deceleration. It annoys the hell out of me and I have been looking for answers for a while, but my tranny still seems fine after 2+ years of sounding like that. I'm in for answers lol oh and mine is stock gears and non lsd.

It's normal. Mine's along with ZZP S4 clutch/Fidanza was noisy from day one 3+ years ago. 25K miles and counting and I don't do any of those NLS either. Shifting into 5th on a cold gear box takes a little more focus; just have to keep the clutch in an extra second before shifting.
FWIW, it was even worse in my previous RWD V8 with the 4:09 swapped. I think whenever you swap with 4:xx gears in what ever applications, it will be noisy my guess.

I have 4.45 in now, lsd, not hearing a noise as you guys describe, but if I come off the clutch as I normally did with the stock 4.05 gear, I get a clunk as the clutch engages. If I ease the clutch out gingerly or let rpms drop some, no clunk. Oddly, when on track and shifting quickly no clunk. Powell checked it out a CED and said he didn't hear any clunk. I wrote it off as a noisey set up, then this week I find the axle seals leaking and I'm starting to get concerned again. Throw out bearing and clutch are both fresh so I'm a bit out of ideas...thoughts?

Yea I dunno def don't seem normal to me the trans I just swapped in is a Saab trans and says 4.45 right on the plaque. And it gets quieter the warner the trans gets meaning it's loud on a cold tranny but def not as loud when warmer, I honestly hate it and is making me wanna do the f40 swap if it's any better.

I have a spec3+ with aluminum flywheel if that makes a diff, my stock trans made the same sound but most definitly not as loud and barely noticeable at most times, also sounds like the trans is squealing when I downshift??

It honestly kind of embarrassing next to others on decel

My aluminium flywheel on my 09 SS did the same thing. Tons of vibration and noise. No such issues with stock flywheel and transmission

My 4.45 final-drive gear produces more gear-whine than stock.

I'd do the same but the pros definitely don't outweigh the cons.

I noticed the same noise when I installed spec 3+ and alum flywheel on my 07 ss. I figured it had to do with the weight savings of the assembly over stock. I have driven it like that for 5+ years. I have noticed recently a vibration under hard acceleration but i mostly feel it through the brake pedal im thinking axle related.
