Anyone got the specs on the o-ring for the GMS1 sensors?

I don't want to have to pay shipping on $5 worth of o-rings. Does anyone know what the ID and OD is on the o-rings for the GMS1 sensor, so I can just pick them up from Grainger? Thanks.

That Wangspeed dood just posted a link to them but I can't find it. If you search posts he has made, you should be able to find it. Or you could PM him.

You want o ring size 202. I think I have a bunch in the garage. They are a little hard to fit, but they are the proper size. Bill @ GM posted ages ago. PM me your addy if you want 2.

It comes with o rings. I forget how, but I nicked one of mine, so I picked up a packet of spares. BTW - you'll need to use small picks to get them on/off without damaging them, and you should put a very light layer of silicon or clean engine oil to get them on, and into the pipe.

The 3 bars come with the green o-rings from CED. You were supposed to order the o-rings that CED sells for this purpose. When you order the adapter plugs like we did, you don't read the GMS1 instructions where it says to replace the o-rings with: O-RING 3 Bar Map Sensor 12626998.

It's a fatter o-ring that replaces the green stock 3 bar o-ring, because the stock 3 bar o-ring is meant for the HHR coldside pipe which, I guess, has a different size of hole in it.

From the instruction pdf:

11. Make sure that the green O-ring from the production MAP sensor
is no longer attached to the mounting surface. Put the
new O-ring on the new TMAP sensor. Both are provided in the
kit. Lubricate O-ring with clean engine oil before installation.

Everything I ordered was from CED. I ordered 2 sensors and the harnesses...I had assumed if i needed anything else it would be supplied or resuse stock seals...

I'm not running GM stage 1, just want to be able to accurately tune using HP tuners

That really pisses me off...

So i am going to need these...maybe a local dealer will have a couple. Is this a common seal or is it pretty specific to the lnf?

This must be the one then....

Good lord. You could order a whole bag full for a few bucks. $3 per ring is kinda crazy. Just make sure it's something that will withstand the oil and temp, like buna-n/nitrile or Viton.

Yeah, that's the ring. You can get them cheap through Grainger, but my Grainger is a pain in the butt. Wanger was kind enough to help me out.

I would just order but will need them by Wednesday, so I'm kinda pressed for time.

Looking at the stock sensor, I see no reason why I can't resuse the stock o rings on the 2 bar sensors...

I tore one of the O-rings from my kit while installing it on the sensor.

I think I used a blue O-ring from a 5.3L V8 fuel injector set as a replacement. It was about the same size and worked fine.

I though of that but then wondered why they wouldn't just tell you to remove those and put them on the new sensors. Maybe that will work.

Hooked up ds33gt too. I'm down to 40 or so of these things They are milspec buna-n, aka nitrile. I ordered mine from Mcmaster in a 50 count bag, but they were really repackaged from oringsusa. $13 from Mcmaster for a 50 count bag, or 22 cents each plus shipping from oringsusa.

oringsUSA

http://www.mcmaster.com/nav/enter.asp?partnum=5018T239 (price has gone up since I bought them)

I also tried a few Viton and Fluorosilicone, and neither of those options work. Too stiff. You will break the GMS sensor trying to get them on.

I miss that city. Went to school there @ UT. Long time ago now though. I bet it's changed a ton since 98 or so

Sure has. I graduated from A&M back in '93, but you're not my enemy anymore. Now, it's Arkansas.

I probably wouldn't have used Nitrile. I looked at the different O-ring materials and fluorosilicone is probably the best route to go. They all have similar durometer ratings (A70-A75) so one being more "rigid" than the other shouldn't be a problem, just use plenty of lube. The fluorosilicone is also rated to a colder temperature that makes me feel more comfortable. The Buna-N/Nitrile and Viton O-rings don't seem to be rated as low as what the rest of the engine is rated for, but I could be wrong.

I avoided sliding the O-rings over the 3-bar MAP sensors, there is part of the flute that is sharp and could tear into the O-rings if you forced them down. I wrapped the flutes with clear scotch tape so the o-rings would slide right down.

I just smeared mine with motor oil and jammed them on there.

I know that I'm updating an old thread...

Good deal on these o-rings at Amazon.
Amazon Amazon

It's an 'add-on' item, meaning that it can only be added on to an order & can't be bought
just by itself.

$3.20 for a bag of 100....
100 of these, for what you would pay for just one...

I got my bag of o-rings yesterday, & just installed one on my buggy today.
Perfect fit....
