Boost spike?

Hey everyone,

So randomly, in 3rd only, if I hammer on it (above 3500 rpms) I'll go from 23-24psi up to almost 30.. I'm ZZP tuner at 23.5psi.
Time for a new turbo??

Why would you need a new turbo for boost spike? do you have three bar MAP sensors?

I wasn't sure if it was a turbo issue or possibly a waste gate issue..

I don't have the 3 bar sensor yet. Could it be a blown MAP, perhaps?
No CELs, by the way

Now does it do it for a second or does it stay at 30 psi? cause my car will boost to 26 or 28, which is considered a "spike" but then taper off to 24ish

It seems to hold at 29-30. When I saw it, I let off so I didn't cause any damage.

well, if you have 2.5 bar MAP sensors your ECU is guessing past 22.5 PSI IIRC. My car will spike around 28 psi, hold for a second and then drop down and continue to drop down to around 19 at redline

My Interceptor reads 23.5, but yeah.. I didn't realize that the ECU 'guesses' after that...
I figured with getting a 23.5psi tune, it would just open the wastegate and that would be it

Yeah the interceptor reads off the ECU, so it guesses boost past 22.5 psi. thats probably why you see 30 psi. it may be hitting 26 or 27 but tapering down later. If you want accurate readings get 3 bar MAP sensors or a mechanical boost gauge

Boost spiking seems to happen often.

I'm running K&N Short Ram Intake, ZZP Upper Charge Pipe, HAHN Intercooler, GMS1 3 Bar Maps, ZZP Cat-less Downpipe and I just installed a ZFR. I hit 30psi at WOT everywhere. We adjusted the Waste Gate Actuator like my tuner said and I'm still pegging the stock boost gauge.

I do know I have a boost leak in my Upper Charge Pipe Coupler, my new ZZP Coupler should be here today. ZZP said a boost leak can cause my spikes so we'll see how that goes, but any other insight would be helpful.

Tuning with HPTuners btw.

Could be a boost leak. I was spiking to 25, after I took all my pipe and intercooler off to clean and put em back on I no longer spiked. Went to 22 smothly

Spiking to 30 on a 23-24 psi tune is not normal, you have an issue somewhere. Spiking a psi or two over your set limit is "acceptable"

I know. At first we thought it was because the Waste Gate Actuator is a High Boost setting, but ZZP said that shouldn't be a problem.

Put their coupler on today, no boost leaks anymore, and put new plugs in.
Still hitting 30PSI in 2nd and 3rd. The base tune is supposed to be a 25psi tune.

I have no idea what's wrong at the moment, but it's getting really aggravating.
