BOV vs. BPV
BOV vs. BPV
Ive got a noobie question seeing...well, I am an a newb when it comes to turbos. In a recent post of someone's newly installed charge piping and HKS SSQV BOV I noticed looking at the pictures of the car the BOV goes right on top of the charge piping near the front of the car. So my question is... where is the stock BPV? Is it connected directly to the stock charge piping somewhere? Its obviously not as visible as where an aftermarket BOV goes. The BOV replaces the BPV right? Also, I had heard talk that replacing our BPV with a BOV would effect our no lift shift because it would blow off the boost youre trying to save during the quick shift. Is this accurate? Im assuming no if people have been making the change. Thanks for any help.
The bpv is integrated into the turbo, you'll find some pics of it here.
A bov wouldn't affect your no lift to shift at all because you're not lifting off the throttle during your shift.

But would a tune be necessary? I'm guessing it would at least be a good idea since the BOV will release to the atmosphere and the ECU is expecting that the released pressure will enter the intake stream. That creating a temporary rich condition.
I just don't know how detrimental it would be and of course it would be very brief.

I heard several threads say that a BOV does NOT throw a CEL when installed correctly. I believe the people who have had problems ran some hoses in the wrong places. There are how-to's on hooking up BOV's and how to do it. It does not hurt our car what so ever because the ECU quickly adjusts to compensate for the air lost to the atmosphere.
Why waste money on just sound? You really dont need to buy a bov until you upgrade turbos. If you buy an intake you should be able to hear your bvp working. My car ran like poop when i had a bov on mine but i drive a wrx and dont know if it will effect your cars like it did mine.
I have a HKS SSQV BOV on my car and it throws NO codes and works great. No loss of power or anything. And it's not really a waste of money. Yes it is just for sound for me because I don't have a turbo upgrade but I like it so who cares? An intake does not give you the same sound. It is much more quiet. I know because I installed mine before I put the BOV on. Many people spend more money on more dumb $hit than a BOV. For instance a BSR tuner haha. Plus I had a HKS BOV already from a previous car so for me it didn't cost anything
