Cam install without holding tool?

Just like the title says.

I need to install this intake cam with the larger lobe. I had a kent moore tool for the LSJ laying around only to figure out its not compatible.

Should I wait and order the tool or are there any other ways to do it on the LNF ?

Timing the whole engine is probably my only option I suppose.

Not a whole lot on the LNF specifics swapping cams , I know all eco's are generally the same but figured I ask before just timing the whole thing over.

Powell said something about stuffing a long extension down where the tensioner goes but that was with the cam tool I am guessing.

Those tools are just ment to hold the cams while you change tensioners and not really for camshaft removal on the vvt cars. It is doable but I recommend atleast putting 2 or 3 clamps holding the gears to the tools so it doesn't fall backwards when the camshaft is removed. I also put a piece of aluminum under the gears to prevent dropping down any at all

I thought it held the phasers in place while you took the cam out. I see what you mean by it wouldnt hold it steady enough to not jump ..

Whats the method with no specialty tools thats what Ive been looking at lately.

searched all over, plenty of non cam phaser how - to's out there very limited resources.

About to get all data diy manual and see what they say.

So now I got everything back together , GMS1 installed these new sensors and I get P0236

wtf ! I checked all the vacuum lines, checked for boost leaks.

It does the dreaded 5 psi **** and flutters .

the sensors I got had black o rings were super hard to get into the hole I could of damaged one, I thought they came with blue o rings on them but I got black ones.

I started the car with no pings pops or crunching sounds idled real fine. Then took it out on the road get p0236 ... guessing these sensors are POS broken or wiring etc.

yes it is tuned for GMS1 , This GMS1 kit I got from zzp plug and play comes with the harnesses. I don't see what the heck it could be besides maps or something with the connections on the turbo

will investigate more today

those plug and play connectors are usually junk..... they are made with cheap components. ive seen a lot of them cause poor connections. i wont even tune cars now days with them on there. i pull them off and solder them in and give the connectors to the owner.

check that stuff out, check for vacuum leaks buy simply spraying break clean anywhere there could be a leak like on the couplers and vacuum lines etc.

did you verify you were in time?

LMFAO YOU GUESSED IT
What a shitty bung that is , my soldering iron is calling my name.

Anyways , it was the bung, I pulled on it slightly and it fell apart in my hand

Working yesterday 12 hours had me totally fried. So I fixed it in 10 minutes this morning.

Shes boosting and cruising like never before

New opels and fuel lobe cam have me smiling, not even fully tuned

stoked
