Cam Removal
the cam can be seperated from the actuator, (PLEASE isolate the timing chain position on the intake side with either a small c clamp or the actual tool to do it available from snap on, or mac) from there you remove all the bearing caps and in the real case here, if it's broken something on the far end (away from timing chain) you can get it out without messing with ANY of the timing. All that said, if your brave enough to tackle it, before you button it up, verify your timing is legit by rotating the engine BY HAND with a ratchet. There are paint marks on the chain, actually for some reason different LNFs either have paint marks or particular links are stamped with their timing position. Either way, get I and E to the correct position then pull out the number one spark plug and have a look with a flashlight, the piston should be less than an 1/4" from the end of the spark plug hole. If it is and your crank pulley mark is also indicating the same, your green light. Keyway on the crank pulley serves the same function btw but it may be a 2 o clock position, either way google is your friend to figure that portion out.

What "lil pins" are you talking about? If you're talking about the lash adjusters (lifters) they can be replaced without pulling the cams. It's a little tricky, but not as tricky as pulling cams if you aren't familiar with that kind of engine work. Every one of the lifters can be replaced without pulling cams.
