Charge pipe came off. Need advice.

So the coupler on the intercooler on the hotside pipe came off this weekend.

I put it on a lift and put the pipe back on.

My question is how far on the pipe should it go? How do I know if I pushed it on far enough?

The crazysteve intercooler has a raised spot on it and I assume you push it past that then tighten the clamp down. Also how tight should i tighten it down? I did it pretty tight, but not so much that it wouldn't tighten anymore if you know what I mean.

I even had help on this and could only push it on so far. It's funky how the stock coupler has the clamp built into the pipe.

Sorry for such a noob topic, but I'm trying to know how safe I was before i step on it.

Well if this is the 1st time with the CP coming off then I would try tightin' it a little more, a couple more cranks on the clamp wont hurt. lol

Push it untill it doesn't want to move anymore, dont just assume it wont go any further just because its really tight because I'm sure it will

If it happens anymore then I would look into some new after market CP and see how it goes from there

it's stock piping so whatever type of clamps those are. Looks like a t-bolt clamp to me.

If it comes off again I am taking to Crazy steve and telling him to make sure it looks good before giving it back. i was his test car, but it has been on the car for almost a year and a half and has never come off. I have a lift so I am going to check it every so often. I am a little afraid to go full boost right now.

stock are tbolt.

ya tighten down till its hard to move the bolt, you should see it kind of start to "pinch" or move the rubber.

this and make sure the clamp is past the rib on the ic and then you'll really notice it to pinch trust me you'll definatly want to crank it down especially with the cs ic

See that's what I'm worried about, Not sure if i got it past the rib and I'm not sure how to make it go farther. We used a lot of force and time to get it as far as we could before we tightened it down.

Don't go too far past the rib. You want your clamp to seat as close to the IC side of the rib as possible. If you clamp too far away, the hose will blow up like a balloon under boostand and expand outward around the barb, causing the hose to slip.

I remember the very first time it happen to me like 3 or 4 times blowing off, until I finally got the lower piece in correctly to the intercooler from popping off.. I got very hesistant from wanting to boost again because it sounds like a gun was about to go off. I startle a couple of people when it happen, people started jumping and halling ass. It was funny as hell to watch.

don't over tighten the t-bolt clamp or you'll pop it.

it takes a lot to over tighten the t-bolt though

haven't had a problem since, I assume you are using t-bolts, if not, invest in two of these:
