Meh, personal preference. I didn't say it wasn't easy to do. Just another step.

Injen if you just want the top/hot one.

Turbo XS if you want a complete kit (upper and lower)

I highly recommend the Dejon Charge pipes. Both lower and upper. DEJON | Powerhouse

Fit great, no rubbing, choose many different colors. Love mine!

C.I.A makes the best ones IMO. They have 1 less coupler and fit great!

I got the turboxs (which is probably still on sale at TTR) and I like it a lot. Went on super easy, quality was good. Only issue was it came one clamp short. Glad for friends. I didn't count before I took the stock stuff apart, doh!

The pipes are already powder coated. Don't bother with heat wrap, it won't make any difference. The air moves way too fast through the pipes to pick up any heat.

I was just looking at your site, and you have the XS charge piping - is that the plumbing you're talking about on your intercooler?

if turbo xs had just the hot-side, i would totally get it, but its the whole kit, which is overkill and too much for me...

From what I've read I like Injen, I just bought mine this weekend, putting it on this week. I like the direct route it takes for air flow and the extra step to do any maintenance it might interfere with isnt a big bother to me. Just personal preference like others have said. Id stay away from Hahn chargepipes and intakes, unless you prep them so they dont rust, I heard of a way to do it, but havent looked much into it. I prolly should since I have a Hahn intake, lol.

Thanks to this little back-and-forth, I might be looking for some pricing on the TurboXS stuff soon; as soon as I find out if I'm getting a bonus at work!

My Hahn pipes are rust free after 2 canadian winters so I don't know what you guys are talking about. that being said, they were a PITA to fit and longest run of them all. ZZP require you to cut your stock pipes so there is no option to return to stock later if you go that route. The Injens look easier to install but the Clear Image Auto pipes are probably the best (short run, minimal bends and clamps) but not being produced anymore, The Turbo XS seem to be a copy of the CIA so i'd look into them first followed by Injen.

Do they make more power? Yes, but for the price of any of them it's not really a lot unless you are getting tuned for maximum power. If you are cost sensitive just get a K&N filter, do the airbox mod, and get a Trifecta tune.

Keep an eye out for this guy. Any time he thinks you might have a spare $5.00 in your pocket he posts a "15 minutes only! Anything you want! On Sale! sale."

I've been sucked in for that twice, ahaha.

We offer replacement silicone couplers on the product drop-down menus. Even if you choose to use your original couplers, you can easily put them back on the stock charge tubes if you decide to go back to those. Clamps hold them on the stock tubes just the same.

Glad you clarified that. I gotta say, when I read that post above, that you have to cut your stock stuff up to use ZZP pipes I was like....

There were so many more tried and true choices with VW, not sure where to start here.

If I upgraded to a new turbo down the road will I be throwing money away if I buy the charge pipes? Will I be able to use them or not?

Thanks,

What's up Dave! Hey from everything I understand the charge pipes are not necessary mod until you start to getting into tuning and bigger horsepower numbers. As far as I know it isn't gonna increase your horsepower on just the gms1 tune, as I believe that was your original question. Unfortunately I think your stuck where you are in terms of power unless you want to get a new tune, which would affect your warranty status unless you could hide it (trifecta?) As far as being able to use the charge pipes you would purchase now on a bigger Turbo down the line, I'm not sure if they would fit on an upgraded Turbo or not. I'm sure someone can chime in and clear that up. This thread got jacked!
