Considering a Combo Tune
Hey guys,
I'm considering adding HPT to my Trifecta
Can you guys please explain to me the benefits of this and why it's something I should do?
Can you also give me reasons why I should NOT do it?
I'm very novice when it comes to cars, well I'd say I'm basic. I did my own airbox mod and arm rest. I've done other stuff too, but no need to name it. Anyway that's my technical knowledge so if something were to go wrong I wouldn't know what to do.
I started this thread with like a **** load of reading, but i thought I'd simplify it. I'm sure you guys don't care about why I'm considering this.
Anyway Thanks folks

Let me start by asking why you want a combo tune?
The only reason why you would get one, is to replace your stock tune with something in between stock and your Trifecta tune. Some guys run GMS1 and Trifecta, but I don't see the point in that. The Trifecta tune is perfectly fine for daily driving.
Combo tunes are more benificial for people with turbo swaps so that they can run a low boost tune and a high boost tune. They require this because they no longer have the option of using the stock tune anymore.
With your current mods, I don't see you needing anything else in the tuning dept. yet.

No it will help you out but itll be pushing the limits of your clutch so youll get some slip. Im the same position as you going for the combo tune, the only difference is i am on an e85 tune and it is slipping a little bit. Our mods are almost exactly the same lol
You already have a TF tune. The reason people get a combo tune is because they are limited with what HPT has, Vince has been nice enough to hook us up with certain things to make the HP Tune more potent.
So for you, unless you have a good custom tuner locally or plan on buying your own HPT and employing someone online, there is no point.

The combo tune becomes and expensive proposition if you already had previously bought the Trifecta Software + cable, then have to buy HPT and pay someone to tune you.
Thats close to 1k dollars in tuning and software.
I started with GMS1.. then i went to HPT... then i went to COMBO tune. I had my tuner make my DD tune a bit above GMS1 @ 274/290( just to dial in the CAI ) and my fun tune @ 325/375. For me, it is perfect as i dive 100km everyday for work, so its easier on the car to just chill and save gas and save my clutch for a little bit longer.
however, if i try to go to dealer, thats a different ball game. I had a second ecm, from a 09 sky, that would not take the combo tune, and i had to use my stock ecm.

I'm on a second ecu right now, my stock ecu is in my basement. So it's not going back to stock that concerns me. It's my level of skill. I have a local guy which is about an hour one way that has a HPT that he said I can use to get a byt or term tune, but not sure how worth it, it is.
I have a crap load of HP Tuner tuners out here in Colorado, but I just don't think they're skilled for the LNF. On my local forums, literally everyone is GMS1, ZZP Canned, Superchip'd HPT from Term or BYT via the guy I stated above or Trifecta'd. There may be a few guys out there that went to a local shop, but I don't know of them, so out of sight out of mind.

You could change your Lambda tables as a lot of Trifecta customers report running rich with the combo tune ..
HPT would just make it easier to log and dial in more often and the unlock will just allow you to tune on top of your current tune..
Its probably not needed unless you are getting horrible gas mileage and lots of knock at high altitude.
Why don't you just ask me dude? It's like you aren't trusting what I am telling you..
Come run me and that will answer all the questions you need to know.
