Dashhawk
Dashhawk
Im looking at getting a dashhawk and just wondering what everyone thinks of it. Is there any other companies making similar products? I have the rpd but i want to be able monitor alot more than that offers.
I had the Dashhawk for awhile, it's a great product, it saved my tail from paying a speeding ticket using the GPS/Speedo record feature (thats another story) but the Dashdaq is the best bang for your buck alot more features than the Daskhawk..
The route I'm going with is a iPad (Jailbroken w/Windows 7 or XP) with a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter w/REV or HP tuners installed.. I'm waiting for the Dash mount and Bluetooth OBD-II to get delivered.. these are the pics of what it will look like..

I had a Dash Hawk a while ago. Then I got a new computer. The Dash Hawk wouldn't talk to the 64 bit computer and like the OP said their customer service is non existant. Several people on their owner forum had similar problems. The Dash Hawk is the LAST diagnostic tool I would buy. JMHO.
so the dashdaq is worth the money, im really interested in the data logging part and then being able to review it. How do you know if your computer is capable of it? It can be a desk top correct only need a laptop if in the car tuning etc?
The cheapest dashdaq i found is here for $535, $140 more if you want the nav option.
The are 2 log viewers for the dashdaq, logworks and drewtech's own that they just released a beta of, i don't like any of them but that's just me, i prefer to use hptuners for logging.

My car a few days ago. Dashdaq. Still working on the mounting/wiring options.

In my case, I got it second-hand from a somebody on here.
It's very worth the money. It freakin does it all. It has configurable gauges, skins, themes, warnings (visual and audio), checks and clears CELs, makes logs (reviewable both on it or on a computer), can monitor many things at once, has performance tests you can run (like 0-60, 1/4 mile, 1/8 mile, or custom ones), analog input capability, heck it even has a music and video player and GPS capability.
I've been very surprised by how useful it's been. For instance, it currently says "Engine Knock Detected" in a female voice if it goes over an amount of KR that I set.
You don't need a powerful computer at all to read the logs. I've been reading them fine with nothing but Excel. I can make my own graphs out of that or whatever I want. It's got four different log formats, so you just pick the one that you like the most. The number of things and kinds of things you can set it to monitor and/or log is very impressive as well. I've got a log of me doing a run where it's monitoring everything from AFR, boost, and MAF airflow, to KR, if the wastegate is open/closed, and when my bypass valve is open/closed.

For some reason having it that way seems more intuitive to me. I like having the gauge or speed readout closer to the road.
I went with the dashdaq for my car and I couldn't be happier. The great thing about the dashdaq is the unlimited possibilities that you have with it. It is fully customizable and you can even create your own skins. DD actually ran a special for a while (not sure if it is still going on) where they would give you the free license upgrade if you designed skins for them ($95 value). I was able to take advantage of this and it basically gave me the ability of tapping into every code that you can monitor (about 400+ sensors - many of them replicates)... If you have a dd already, I recommend spending the $95 to upgrade your license. If you are thinking about getting a dd - then do it! You won't regret it...
wow.
1. the dashhawk is great tool.
2. its cheap
3. there still is support, just not updates to the software.
I love mine, just need to mount it. It logs info and is easy to sync to pc to pull it off and check. Considering they cost below $200 used. Its a MUCH better deal than those other options that cost 3 to 4 times as much.

DashDaq FTW...the only thing I don't like is that it takes a little time to switch from OBD to NAV...

This is a skin someone made for S2000 so the sweep bar wasn't editable...the psi is actually half and should go to 20 instead of 10...
engine is off...that's why the IAT is high...great to see the stock IC (even at over 20psi) is still within couple degrees of ambient...I need to get off my butt and design a new skin so I can get the free upgrade...

Turn the knob until you get to the setup menu. Push the button once and then turn it to highlight "screen order" and push it again. You can then flip-flop the two "regions".

not sure if hptuner does make apps for ipad or iphone.. but, i was saying - i got an ipad and jailbroken it - so i can run windows 7 or xp using bootcamp so i can run hptuner on it.. so i can set it up to run 3 or 4 different tunes while im driving - some like the select-a-tune..
did it.. thanks so much!! maybe i'm the first sedan with a RPD..

windows doesnt technically run "ON" the ipad. its done by using citrix which needs a internet connection to attach to a citrix farm....so Unless you had 3g ipad with 100% coverage you'd be out of luck. The good news is, there are plenty of tablets coming out that have windows, android or linux that can do what you want. HPT does not offer a "app" for iphone or ipad currently. I think for me I'll be getting a netbook for in car tuning and data logging. The dash hawk I need to mount some where... CP-e made a sweet ass mount for the DH on the ms3's...I should ring them up when/if they have a ss in there for part research to make that.
some things should be left alone.. http://gizmodo.com/5509219/apple-ipa...ady-jailbroken
