Very good news, thanks for the info. Btw your numbers were on a mustang dyno?

I forgot I had this question until now. lol.

is there any benefit of running different blends of e85? I know common practice is 50/50 e47 but anyone done like an e35 blend, etc? any one safer than the other? yields more power? better on the fuel system? pros and cons please!

From my readings on here and a few other GM sites regarding this motor, E47 is where it's at for power, any more and you won't gain anything worth writing home about. Plus you run out of fueling real fast with anything higher than E47. E35 is likely a good mix to work with, though might not make as much power.

Great thread idea OP. One day, when this state has more than 4 corn stations and they aren't all on bases I'll be looking into this stuff more.

Added benefits of ethanol blends are improved fuel economy with lowered ethanol content, needing less total fuel mass therefore less demand of the fuel system. With modern fuel systems ethanol is no longer a problem, it doesn't "degrade" the fuel system at all. No one really does other blends simply because mixing 50/50 is very easy. But a 75/25 93-e85 blend would be good, that would give E29 which provides good knock suppression more than enough to reach MBT.

Nope those are on a dynojet. My only fueling mod is a 5th injector and spinning the engine to only 6800rpm. I'm sure I could produce 450+ if I cranked up the wick to 28psi or so. I would likely expect lower numbers on a mustang of course.

I actually had to run an e35 blend in my car with my efr for a little while before I got my 5th injector setup. Even with the lower blend I still couldn't go past 25psi (even with a very conservative boost ramp) without my stock fuel system having a coronary. I was still able to push the ignition timing further than I had expected though. I only lost about 2* of timing down low, 1.5* peak and made 16whp less power. I never tested it on the stock turbo but I would have to guess the resulting power loss compared to e47 would be similar to my results with my efr.

^thanks

do you guys all test the fuel each time you fill up or do you buy bulk and store in a drum or whatever? where can I buy a good ethanol content tester?

cool. and then just depending on the ethanol content you adjust the ratios accordingly? how much "wiggle" room is there? as in how exactly precise to e47 would the mixture have to be?

Well your trims will adjust to some extent, but as long as it's with +-5% you'll be fine. But optimally you want to adjust with any change at all, it isn't bad though because all the stations I go to stay very stable with their ethanol contents. It just changes when they switch from summer to winter blends.

All the e85 or tuning questions you could ever think of are all written out and explained over on the hptuner forum. You can also check out their tunes which helps greatly when trying to learn

You will need to upgrade your injector seals. Solstice have the white seals, mine lasted about 2 1/2 years on E42. E blends are the way to go, mixing isn't that bad.

Repost(from sol drag times):

GXP 5sp w/ GMPP stage upgrade/KN filter/airbox mod/Magnaflow catback/stock tires

60'......2.087
1/8.....8.964
MPH....80.71
1/4.....13.873
MPH....98.93

This year went back with the addition of a catless downpipe, e47 tune and Bridgestone RE-11.

60'......1.973
1/8.....8.449
MPH....87.44
1/4.....13.066
MPH....108.91

Also had a 13.084 @ 110.61. Really shows the gains you can get with tuning even over gms1. That was me trying to be a bit conservative as well. I am hoping I can squeak under 13 this spring on the stock turbo.

If you're stock that means you can potentially gain 13-15mph and drop more than a second in the 1/4. That is crazy considering just a tune can unlock that potential!

Mixing at the station sounds annoying, but its no big deal and that e tester noor posted is easy to use.

Also...You will need good rubber. I had the stock tires for a bit on that tune and you will spin right through 2nd gear everytime on a hot day...maybe Im a *****, but I didn't like the rear end moving around at 50mph just trying to keep it straight. I pictured myself in the ditch like so many vette owners.

as spring is approaching I suspect stations will start having the actual e85 and not the e70 winter mix rather soon. anyone have any clue when they begin making the switch? i'm sure the stations are all different but ballpark guesses from experienced corn feeders are welcome.

It all depends on your region, but I can tell you this much. I know for an absolute fact there are stations that sell e85 all year round regardless of what the regional charts say. I know of at least 2 up here in my area that sell it all year round even though I'm not technically supposed to see e85 blends until April or May. (I've used them countless times for my fuel and test it every time so I know they definitely always sell e85)

Long and short of it, find a quality fuel station, test the e85 for ethanol content and see if you can find one that sells it year round. If not, the math is still very easy to make e47 from e70. You just again need to know what you're starting with before you can assume any numbers to calculate off of.

Flex fuel?

There was a ZZP thread awhile back about a new custom PCM, and what options would the masses want? One of the things someone brought up is Flex Fuel option. I don't think anything ever came of it. Is it a possibility of science fiction? I don't have any E85 pumps nearby, but there is one right on the way to my local drag strip. I might just get a spare PCM and have 09CobaltSS1 work his magic on it . But it sure would be nice to switch on the fly, even if I had to change tunes when I filled up on the E

The fuel lobe on the stage 1/2 cams helps quite a bit
