You should be able to pass regardless what turbo you have. No one will even know really. Just as long as you have a catted dp and a muffler you should a pass smog test. If you get known at a garage though, they should pass you regardless. I have quite a few of my buddy's who work at garages and I'm usually at there 95% once I'm off work either helping or bs'n.

Either way, there shouldn't be any grinding of the manifold needed nor will you need to remove the manifold at all for that matter. The manifold heat shield can even stay in place as long as you remove the bolt right where the turbo bolts to the manifold, otherwise that bolt will definitely interfere. Another thing to keep an eye out for as well is the length of the turbo oil feed. Mine for whatever stroke of **** luck ended up being about 1.5" too short no matter how I routed it. I ended up having to piece together two -4 fittings and make a 1/4" extension line to make mine fit correctly. Other than that, it wasn't a difficult install in the least..

Here's a pic of the extension. I also coated my turbine housing in a 2000* high temp black enamel because mine was already rusting a looked like absolute crap. It was far more rusty looking that the o2 housing it's bolted to there in the pic just to give you a point of reference. Any future installs of these that I do will 100% get the same treatment.
My oil feed line was kind of tight too getting installed but it was almost like the line was stiff. We lubed it up a bit and it loosened up a bit and we managed yo get it good. It almost did seem like it needed to be a hair longer and it would've have given me as much grief but I still got it in. Worse part about installing the line was putting the line fitting into the oil pan. I didn't removing the one coolant pump line and it left me with like 1/4 of an inch to put the the fitting in. Talking about a pita...

Well he went to the track and his tranny too a hit! Said fluid was leaking but could still drive home. He knew he was playing with fire. Trapped 112mph on the 400whp tune. Not bad for 4500ft

Lol. Welcome to the game. That's how mine is too. Its still driveable but third is shattered and it makes a ton of noise when shifting between any of the gears. Did he end up running with the slicks?

He needs to turn it up and/ or drive the **** out of it when he goes back. I trapped 110.5mph on the stock k04 at 5800ft. I'm curious to see what it'll do since I'm at high altitude also.

Should've trapped higher for sure. I didn't turn off temp compensations so my guess is sitting there staging/heatsoaking he hit the comp table and pulled timing. I turned that off on his track tune but never flashed it (wisdom teeth pulled ). He was driving on his daily driver tune

Really? That's interesting. Hmmmmm, I would love to upgrade to the ZFR but damn, so much money and so much work. LOL Then I'm scared of failing smog and having to switch it all back to stock. However, since you said I should pass, did you ever smog your car yet with the ZFR? CA has really strict emission laws. What else would you need other then the ZFR turbo itself for an upgrade? What are the supporting mods? LOL I'm a total newb. Also, does anyone have a comparison between the KO4 and ZFR 1/4 mile times? Post please!

LOL, emissions. Where I live, if the car has insurance coverage and working lights, you can plate it and drive it wherever you like.

Sweet lol I'm cams now full e85 stock turbo and they've worked out fine. I think they'd be at their limit around 475-500whp where you would then need an additional injector. But yea I'm gonna go the zfr route in a few months so that's why I was asking haha
