Everyone having issues with gms1 chime in!
i've started another thread https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show....php?p=5158793 that seems to be related.
i go into 5lb mode(with flutter) about 20% of the time while im driving my car. sometimes it just stops and runs normal when sitting at a stop light, or it starts when sitting at a light.
i put my stock intake back on but i still have the issue. i only checked the install of the top sensor and that looked good. its too hot outside for me to want to check the lower sensor and the dealer should be doing that.
but there is a constant issue of my car misfiring and surging when normal driving. i cant deal with this crap much longer, this car isnt worth it. I think i've borken the 100 day mark (not kidding, i have the service records) that my car has been at the shop, and i only only owned it 2 years this month.
Now that i have read what you guys have written, im sure the retards at the dealer took longer than they should have with the install because it was 2 hours and 220$ for the install

Well, I got my car datalogged with hp tuners today and found out that my ltft are -7.5, my car is showing 2-3 degrees of knock throughout the entire rpm range, and my car is pulling timing. We even seen it at
-5.5 degrees of timing when I let off the throttle. Anyone know what could be wrong?

I've had my gm stg 1 since December but car only started acting up in June (when it started getting hot). Car wouldn't boost over 5psi every other time I drove it. Brought it to the dealer they checked for boost leak and found none. Checked map and maf sensors and connections, wastegate and said they were fine. They drove the car 3 times and couldn't reproduce the problem. Funny thing is the car ran fine for 2 weeks afterwards, then started acting up again. Wonder if it's because the reset pcm.

From what I have read....a custom tune will not make a difference. I have seen people have this issue with gms1 with trifecta tune on top of the kit.
UGH. Sounds like I'll have to lemon law the car then. I am in 5lbs mode 90% of the time now. When my car does have full boost it only lasts for a few minutes, typically I notice it is lost again after a u-turn or when another sporty car revs me up.
Have you asked for help from anybody besides the dealer? There are some very intelligent guys on this forum that can probably steer you in the right direction. I have the Trifecta tune which I am more than satisfied with so I'll recommend you contact Vince at Trifecta Performance Inc. His "tune" completely replaces GM's tune and you can datalog and send it to him via email. He'll analyze it and write updates for YOUR PARTICULAR situation. He might even be able to help you with your present problem. Email or phone him. It's worth a phone call.
Yes, its removable, youll need to reinstall the stock sensors, and wiring connectors, and have the stock calibration flashed back onto it by the dealer (or an HPT user if you choose) Just know that you wont be able to sell the kit even if the dealer removes it and reflashes car to stock, the activation code is a one time use item.

I don't know if asking this here will be the best place, but Voiding my warranty is a fear of mine, hearing all these issues with install makes me not want to get the GMS1.
I feel like I'm in between a rock and hard place.
Is it smarter for me to invest in GMS1 and any issues force the dealership to fix or get a trifecta tune and hope all works out and if I need a warranty issue cross my fingers.

The installation errors with the GMS1 not happend since the wires have been solder by the dealer. I should have stick with my 07 SS/SC the whole time. No such thing as LIMP mode and down learn. I'm sure the guys on the LSJ forums are laughing at us.

2nd. If you're really that worried about your warranty maybe you should think about remaining underpowered, I mean stock. With the upgrade you'll be one of the people out there having fun and subjecting your self to possible speeding tickets.
3rd. With the Trifecta you'll go straight to JAIL!
Call and talk with Vince at Trifecta. He won't bite you and might have a solution to your problem. Plus, his tune can be turned off at will and is undetectable when going in for service. If anybody was getting caught with the Trifecta tune it would be all over this forum in a heartbeat and I havven't heard of anybody getting caught.

1st. It is only a small percentage that are having "problems". You're NOT hearing from all the guys that are very satisfied with the factory upgrade and are out having too much fun with their new found power.

I just ran a track day at Sebring Raceway last weekend. Wanting to learn more I asked an expert driver to run a few laps with me in the passengers seat. I wanted to get an experts impressions of the car and see what the car was capable of with a real driver behind the wheel. The guy I selected was one of only a few that had any experience with FWD. On the last lap we, I mean HE, blew a charge pipe off so we limped back to the pits. No problem. He seemed really excited as he told me what he thought of the car. He told me he thought the car had more power than the handling was capable of using in it's stock configuration. But he also thought the car handled better than any street driven FWD he'd ever had on the track. All in all a pretty good testimonial. He said he'd love to try the car with slicks and maybe some work on the front suspension. That is presently being investigated.
Before I left for this UNBELIEVABLE experience, I HIGHLY recommend it to every one, I sent a data log to Vince to make sure the tune was up for this kind of activity. He checked it and gave me a "good to go". I only tell you this to try to express the flexibility of the Trifecta tune. During my 4 track sessions I, the car, burned more than a tank of gas while averaging MAYBE 10 MPG burning 98 octane, $8.50 a gallon, Sunoco race gas. When the day was done I pushed the button on the dash to turn Comp mode off, which also returns the tune to stock, which is the GMS1, and averaged 30 MPG on the 150 mile ride home.
Go for it. You won't be disappointed.
I think what I need is to talk to someone who has GMS1, installed the sensors themselves, had the flash done at a dealer, has had no problems whatsoever, and is within a reasonable proximity to DFW. I would like to make sure that my sensors are installed properly. The lower sensor is the one I'm really worried about, but looking at both couldn't hurt. But if it's something like the "purge solenoid" that seems like the dealer would have to replace under warranty. Obviously I'm not sure how well they could identify it.
Also, does anybody have access to the TSB that talks about a leak in one of three areas: purge solenoid, some kind of tank, or something else? I've scoured the forums for it and I cannot find it. I remember somebody posting it on one of these reduced boost threads.

"GMS1 parameters"?? What does that mean? You want Vince to build you a tune to match the GM Upgrade? I don't understand. All Trifectas Cobalt tunes are sold through Clear Image Automotive. Go to their site, fill in the blanks on the order sheet, which includes whatever mods you might have, and what you'll receive will blow your mind. Trust me!! A bit of advise. Buy the cable. With it you can add mods any time, run a data log, email it to Vince and he'll fine tune everything to the mods.
Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

I know what you're thinking, then just do the GMS1 and stop worrying about it, but the price and versatility attracts me to Trifecta.
So Vince assured me that there's no need to worry about warranty, here's what he said.
Hi Michael,
Thanks for the emails.
The best thing to do for the warranty issue is to spend the extra $200 with us and buy the programming cable to keep. You get a copy of your stock tune, which you can reload any time you need to. Regardless of what anybody might be saying, there is NO way the dealer can tell the reflash history of the ECM, only what is currently present in it. Yes, we spent the $7000 and bought the same equipment the dealers use, so we know this is fact.

Quick question about the GMS1 sensors. Anyone that did the install themselves, did you use the o-rings that were on the sensors or the new ones in the kit? I heard people using the stockers rather than the ones in the kit because they had issues...??? Just wanting some clarification as what is the best combo for the install that people have achieved.
Thanks!

i got my gms1 installed a few months ago and was done to the car with no other mods on it and when i picked it up the day the gms1 was installed the car felt amazing boosted 16 pounds no problem and took off like a rocket ship and now after a month or so ive been noticing the boost has gone down im getting now about 12 pounds nothing more my car has always boosted low before the kit was like a 12 max then dropped to 8 or so im not sure why my car has always boosted so low might be cause of where i live ive also noticed that when it was winter time the car boosted higher does anyone know why my boost would of dropped a few pounds and is still pretty low compared to you guys who are boosting 18-20 pounds
Check for a boost leak in the inlet system including the intercooler.

I got a little over anxious and a lot frustrated and destroyed the new ones so I reused the old ones. If you EVER want to get the sensors in there you're going to HAVE to lubricate them with SOMETHING. Everybody will tell you NO but if you just WET them with dish soap they'll go in a little easier and I don't think the soap will hurt anything. At least it didn't on my install. And mine has run FINE since it was installed and I was one of the first to be installed when it first came out.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I am now getting what sounds like this same issue. It has happened two times in the last two weeks. I know everyone is saying get a custom tune, but I just paid 500 for GMS1 and it should work, right?!
So has anything come from this? Any ideas on what to fix?
I think I am going to look at the following after work:
-Check MAF sensor for K&N oil from filter?
-Check the filter itself
-Check if the wastegate is stuck open? (can that be an issue not letting the boost build?)
-Disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and see if it goes away
-Check for boost leak (unsure why it would be so hit or miss, seems like this would always be an issue, not come and go)
