We received a completed silicone coupler yesterday. It's very nice quality, but required a couple minor changes. I'll post another update when we have the final version.

I have sent the Links of our troubled intake problems to K&N R&D department. They told me when they get time they will try and look into helping us fix this issue

it sounds like just maybe someone will be picking up the ball that GMPP dropped when he stageII seemed to have been dropped...

Albeit, it hasn't "officially" been dropped, but dude, why wouldn't it already be out if they were still working on it!?!?

The hold up on the stageI (irc) was that it was originally going to have an intake included, then after that changed, the hold up was all on getting it certified... that wait was pretty painful ~ even if I didn't own a Cobalt at the time ~ but I was watching...

Even though we pretty much know it won't happen, a new intake would need to work perfect for GM to issue it and it must pass CARB cert again so that's a huge pain in the ass.

K&n goes through alot of R&D making sure there products work before releasing their items. On vehicles and test machines. So problems should be to a minimum

Reviving old thread

The crux of this mod is air flow improvement. I was comparing these two pix:

STOCK

MODIFIED

The mod is supposed to flow much better. I know you eliminate the *elbow* for a straight tube, but the STOCK tube faces FORWARD for a *ram effect* and the mod faces straight down? I have a hard time convincing myself that this cutting and repositioning of the tube alone really does much at all. I'm thinking of adding the ZZP intake tube a la *AEM* (not available yet) to the turbo inlet retaining the stock box. I'm just questioning the addition of this mod as well.

Removing the snorkle is what increases the flow because it tapers down a lot in the airbox. The fuel trims will shift with the snorkel mod and/or K&N drop in. About 2-3% witht he airbox mod if I remember right and a few more with the drop in filter.

Might as well bite the bullet and get the K&N SRI since you should retune for this mod anyway. I ran the airbox mod for a while and it did flow better though. No ram effect behind the fog light in the fender well sorry.

Really want to retain stock air box set up for various reasons. I see ZZP has an intake to turbo hose (just posted a thread on this). You can input on that thread if you wish.

Can a car novice like myself do this? When I mean novice I really mean novice! I'm a quick learner when it comes to science and computers, but not to confident on autos?

Do I do method 1 and 2 if I buy the intake tube or do I just do method 2 if I'm buying the tube?

Is there a youtube "how to" video on this for the SS/TC?

You seriously don't need a video on how to do this, it's such a simple mod that once you actually start working on it you probaly won't even look at the pics as to how to do it.
