Has anyone had a cam position sensor go bad?

My computer is spewing forth CEL's that the exhaust cam position sensor is bad (thanks T2). I asked around in some local circles and nobody had experienced this... and then when ordering the part from CED (thanks Tom), he indicated that he hasn't sold any of them... which means nobody's asking him for them-- 'cept me. Did mine just decided to die at 25k miles because I'm special? Or are others seeing these sensors fail? Or???

Mine failed 2 years ago. I think I had 15,000 miles on it at the time.

It threw a code, and ended up causing starting issues.

I had it replaced at the dealership under warrenty.

My intake cam sensor was leaking oil at the O-ring a year or so ago. Black RTV took care of that. No issues other than the minor oil leak.

  • Installation time-- 10 minutes (including putting away tools and washing hands)
  • Time spent looking for that stupid gray plastic connector lock-- 30+ minutes (which I never found)

Has anyone got a spare one they'd like to stick in an envelope and send my way?

Jeebus! Does it ever end? AFTER sensor replacement, I'm still getting the following...

Erase the DTC's? Did that 20 times during the 45 minute drive. They instantly returned every time.

you hyave a poor connection causing low voltage.. i think you need a tech to trouble shoot your problem and stop wasting money on parts you do not need.

Must be a bad connection if it is not the sensor itself.

And therein lies the real problem, and the basis of my other post here. I agree. I need someone to take the car and make it work. Every dealer in my area has proved its gross incompetence with this car (frankly, with service in general)... unless someone has a recommendation for a dealer in the SF (east) Bay area where they've had actual quality service done, and can offer up a service tech or manager's name I should be talking to...

Kill me now.
